Situation For services providers, there are thousands of customers beyond the Carrier Service Area (CSA) range of 12kft. While each of these customers today represents main and perhaps second line service revenue, they are all prospects for increased revenue from higher speed services such as ADSL. Yet service providers face potent barriers to realizing new revenue from these customers. The first barrier is technology. HDSL with DS-1 repeaters offers the reach, yet is incompatible with ADSL when carried in the same cable bundle.
