Trường THCS Mỹ Hiệp Giáo án theo PP dạy học tích cực Tiếng Anh 9 Date of preparation : October 10 th , 2010 Date of teaching : October 31 st ,2010 Period : 20 UNIT 4 : LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE LESSON 1 : GETTING STARTED + LISTEN AND READ I-AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: - Language content: -To introduce some new words relating to learning English. -To enable Ss to learn the structure of reported questions and reported speech . - Language function – To help Ss practise a dialogue and learn the reported questions as well , - Talking about the way to learn foreign language. - By the end of the lesson, the sts will be able to produce the reported questions - Educational aim: -To help the Ss have their best methods to learn English. - To make Ss aware of the importance of learning English 1- Language: a- Vocabulary:(n) aspect, examiner, college, candidate, written examination, oral examination b- Structures: S + asked/ said +………+ S + V ( simple past). 2- Skills: Integrated skills. 3- Educational factor: Knowing to learn a foreign language effectively. Try their best to improve their English better II- TEACHER AND STUDENTS’PREPARATION: 1- Method: Communicative approach. 2- Techniques: Explanation, using pictures, groupwork, questions- answers, T-F statements, role play, translation, definition,net work or “SO DO TU DUY” 3- Materials needed:Textbook, pictures, cassette player. 4- Students’preparation: Pictures, new lesson. 5- Previous exercises: The Teacher’s key to the last exercises. III- PROCEDURE IN CLASS: 1- Stabilization (2ms) a- Warm up: Greeting. b- Checking absence: Who’s absent today? 2- Checking up the previous knowledge (5ms): Questions Key and marks Remark 1.Rewrite the sentences a. Hoa can’t visit her parents. Hoa wishes……………………. b. Lan sings beautifully., but I don’t. I wish………………………… 2: complete the sentences a. Nam / work / hard / so / pass / exam. b. I / sick / today / so / not go / school . 1. ( 4 ms) a) Hoa wishes she could visit her parents. b) I wish I sang beautifully 2. Presentation of the new material. 28ms 1.LEAD-IN: * chatting: has Ss listen and answer the questions - Do you like learning English ? (yes) - Which of these subjects are you interested in : speaking, listeniing, erading, writing ? - How do you learn speaking, listeniing, erading, writing ? Getting Started: - Asks the Ss to think about the ways how to learn and improve their English - presents “SODOTUDUY” - divides the class into 6 groups . Each group has to disolve a problem above in 2 minutes. - provides the groups with flash cards to express their opinion. Then show the cards on the board - corrects and remarks the result Here are the eliciting answers; + How to learn speaking? Practice speaking English with teacher, with friends and with others if possible. Speak English in class, at home , at school, …. + How to learn reading? Read short stories or newspapers in English. Use a dictionary. + How to learn listening? Practice listening to English tapes or English news on T.V/ the radio . Watch English movies. + How to learn writing ? practicce writing English as much as possible. Write diary/ letter in English + How to learn vocabulary ? learn by heart all the new words. Use a dictionary. + How to learn grammar? Do the grammar exercises carefully. Write sentences with the new words/ the new stuctures……. 2. PRE- PRACTICE a) Teaches some new words: + aspect (n) ( translation) + examiner (n)(definition: a person who asks/ gives questions + hard (a) synonym of difficult + candidate(n)(definition: one who gives the answers) + written / oral examination (n) (translation) - Asks the ss to read the new words. - Checks understanding of the new words : what and where. b) Introduces structures: Reported Questions + Do you learn English?  Sheasked (me) if I learned English Listen and guess the meaning Repeat and write down Read the words aloud Go to the board Listen and repeat, then write down II.Listen and Read 1) New words: + aspect (n) lĩnh vực + examiner (n) giám khảo + hard (a) = difficult + candidate(n) thí sinh + written examination(n): thi viết + oral examination (n): thi vấn đáp 2) Reported Questions: *Examples: a. Do you learn English?  Sheasked (me) if I learned English + What’s your name? b. She asked what my name was. - 2 - How to learn speaking? How to learn listening? How to learn English ? How to learn reading? How to learn vocabulary ? How to learn writing ? How to learn grammar? Where do you live? He asked where I lived T: Do you do your homework?  He asked if we did our homework c) Open prediction - Sets the sence: After the oral exam, Lan is reporting to Paola, a foreign student,some oral questions that she has just taken”. -Gives the sts 2 questions 1. Were the questions in oral exam difficult or easy? 2. How many questions did the examiner ask Lan? - Has the sts work in pairs to share the answer Revise the structure Product reported questions Guess and give the answers: - easy/ difficult - 8 / 9 /10… * Structure: S+ ASKED +(pron) If/ whether+ S + V Wh- + S + V Notes: Verbs in the past tenses 3) Guess and answer: a). Were the questions in the oral exam difficult or easy? b) How many questions did the examiner ask Lan? 3.CONTROLLED PRACTICE: -Asks Ss to listen to the dialogue between Lan and Paola, and check if their answers are correct or not - Plays the tape again gives feedback  She asked 8 questions. - Calls on some pairs of Ss to read the dialogue. - Corrects their pronunciation/ intonation - Asks the Ss to read the dialogue and answer the question: What exactly did she ask Lan? -Lets the sts read the list of questions for the oral examination of Royal English College - Gets them to read the dialogue again and decide what questions that the examiner asked Lan. - Lets the Ss do the exercise individually then compare with their partners. - Gives answers. - has Ss pick out the reported questions Lan’s told Paola Listen to the tape Check the guessing Work in pairs Read the dialogue aloud Read the quesyionairs Work individually And give the answers go to the board 4) A nswer the question What exactly did she ask Lan? * Answers: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14. Lan’s reported questions: 1. She asked me what my name was. 2. She asked me where I came from. 6. She asked me why I was learning English. 7. She asked me if I spoke any other languages. 8. FREE PRACTICE - Asks the Ss to work in pairs to practice asking and answering. One student plays the role of examiner and another plays the role of Lan. - Calls on some pairs to practice in front of the class. - Corrects their pronunciation. -Asks Ss to make the reported speech with the left ones in the list a. Do you live with your parents? b. How long have you learned English ? c. What are your hobbies ? - calls on some Ss to write their sentences on the board - gives feedback work in open pairs practice thr dialogue work individually , then go to the board correct and write down 5. Production: a. He asked me if I lived with my parents. b. He asked how long I had learned English. c. He asked me what my hobbies were . II. Consolidation 5ms * asks Ss to answer: How do you learn English? What exactly did the examiner ask Lan in the oral examination? listen and answer recall the content of the lesson III. Homework 5ms * Asks Ss to - rewrite Lan’s reported questions in their notebooks, and learn carefully - learn the new words - prepare for the next period: Unit 4 – Lesson 2: speak - do exercises: 1,2,3 in the workbook Commends on how Ss study and give marks to the good students Learn what to do at home listen and write down III.
