Tet holiday is the traditional holiday in Vietnam. It starts at the end of january and lasts until mid- February. On Tet holiday, families often gather together, visit relatives, friends, enjoy traditional food, and the like. Nowadays, Vietnamese people believe that everything must be new on Tet. Therefore, before Tet, people often clean and decorate the house, buy flowers and food, and so on. Besides, all unnecessary thing will be thrown away. On Tet holiday, people always buy new clothers. It's believe that the need to get rid of the old , no luck in old clothes and welcome a new year with new hope and joy from new clothes. This tradition is called mừng tuổi (happy new age) in the north and lì xì (that is mean lucky money) in the south. Usually, children wear their new clothes and give their elders the traditional Tết greetings before receiving the money. Since the Vietnamese believe that the first visitor a family receives in the year determines their fortune for the entire year, people never enter any house on the first day without being invited first.
