PRONOUNS
Words that take the place of nouns or noun phrases are pronouns. SUBJECT PRONOUNS I, you, she, etc. OBJECT PRONOUNS me, you, her, etc. POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES my, your, her, etc. POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS mine, yours, hers, etc. REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS myself, yourself, herself, etc
STRATEGIES FOR PRONOUN ITEMS ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS: Does the pronoun replace the noun? Do not use a pronoun if it repeats the meaning of the noun. INCORRECT [The proposal it should be finalized soon.] CORRECT The proposal should be finalized soon.
Does the pronoun agree with the noun it replaces in number (singular or plural), gender (he, she, it), and grammatical function (subject, object, possessive, or reflexive)? INCORRECT [It was my error, so I will correct them.] CORRECT It was my error, so I will correct it.
