College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) IHL Required CPC • Mathematics Carnegie Units • English Carnegie Units • Science Carnegie Units • Social Studies Carnegie Units • Advanced Electives Carnegie Units ã Computer Applications ẵ Carnegie Unit Pre-High School Units: Algebra I, first year IHL Recommended CPC • Mathematics Units • English • Science • Social Studies Units • Arts • Advanced Electives Units • Computer Applications Carnegie Carnegie Units Carnegie Units Carnegie Carnegie Unit Carnegie ½ Carnegie Unit Pre-High School Units: Algebra I, first year IHL Summer Developmental Program • Students who not meet the criteria for regular admission are nonetheless eligible for admission • Such students must participate, however, in an on-campus placement process at the university of their choice • The process will determine whether the student may be enrolled in regular freshman-level courses in the Fall semester or required to enroll in the summer semester with mandatory participation in the Summer Developmental Program • Successful completion of the Summer Developmental Program entitles the student to continued enrollment in the Fall semester at the university of his or her choice   IHL Summer Developmental Program Grant (SDPG) • Must be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi • Must be under the age of 21 at the time of application • Must not have earned 24 or more credit hours at a college or university • Must have been accepted into the Summer Developmental Program (first time attendee) at an eligible Mississippi public four-year institution • Must be eligible to receive federal student financial aid and demonstrate financial need • Must complete the online application and submit Higher Educational Legislative Plan for Needy Students (HELP): AWARD: Full tuition at Mississippi 2- or 4-year public institutions or equivalent amount of public tuition at private institutions Eligibility: • 2.5 GPA (on 4.0 scale) • 20 ACT • Financial Need • Specific High School Core Curriculum 44 HELP Core Curriculum: • • • English I, II, III and IV (4 units) Algebra I and II (2 units) Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus or comparable Advanced Mathematics (1 unit) • Biology and Chemistry (2 units) • Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Biology II, Chemistry II or Physics (1 unit) NOTE: Currently Human A&P is not included in the list! • American History (1 unit) • World History, World Cultures, Western Civilization or World Geography (1 unit) • Civics and/or Economics (1 unit) • Fine Arts Survey (1 unit); or substitute units of performance courses in music, dance or theater; or substitute units of studio art courses (1 or units) • Foreign Language I and II (2 units in a single language) • Computer Science, Computer Literacy or Data Processing (ẵ unit) ã Electives from the above (1 unit) TOTAL = Minimum 17 ½ units High School Counselors: • Help students apply ON TIME! – FEDERAL (FAFSA) – www.fafsa.gov • No Deadline, but schools often have deadlines – STATE - www.mississippi.edu/financialaid • HELP Application – DUE: March 31 • MTAG/MESG/LAW – DUE: September 15 – INSTITUTIONAL • Deadlines vary – usually early Spring – PRIVATE • Deadlines vary – usually early Spring • Help students submit necessary documents Residency Documents: • State income tax returns • MS Driver’s license • Alternate Residency Documents Accepted: – FAFSA – Homestead Exemption – Voter Registration – Vehicle Registration 47 Eligibility Documents for MTAG/MESG: • 7-Semester High School GPA • ACT Score from official source 48 HELP Documents: (Due 4/30) • Current Year Federal Tax Return • Prior Year Federal Tax Return • Current Year State Tax Return • Prior Year State Tax Return • FAFSA • HELP Worksheet (Household Verification) • Certification of Core Curriculum • GPA and ACT Score Certifying the HELP Core Curriculum: • Three Ways to Certify: Online through the Counselor Webpage On the Grade File ****NEW*** Transcript • Request a List of HELP Applicants 50 High School Grade File: • 7-semester GPAs for ALL graduating seniors • Due each year by May 31 (the earlier the better!) • FOUR ways to submit: – – – – Online using PIN (student must have app on file) CD with Excel file Email with encrypted Excel file Secure web upload with Excel file ***NEW*** • Instructions/assistance available: – www.mississippi.edu/financialaid/counselor_assistance.html 51 Webpage for Counselors: www.mississippi.edu/financialaid High School Counselor Page Webpage for Counselors: www.mississippi.edu Link to High School Counselor Page 53 What’s on the counselor page?
