The problem of homelessness is more desasterious when it happened on older people because they are susceptible to social, economic, health and psychological problems Previous litratur in Ethiopia on older people were not give emphasis on older people homelessness And homelessness on older people was hardly conducted in Ethiopia as compared to the western countries Therefore, the overall aim of the study was describing the living conditions of homeless older people and their coping strategies This qualitative descriptive case study addressed the main reasons behind homelessness of older people, challenges, and coping strategies For this effort, single case study and cross-sectional research with purposive sampling methods were employed Fourteen participants; ten homeless older people and four key informants have participated Additionally, thematic analysis was used to analyze the data that has been collected in the field through in-depth interview, Key informant interview, observation, and document review data collection methods The findings of the study indicate that the intersection of multiple reasons such as unavailability of low-cost house rent, health problem, poverty, lack of social support, lack of legal protection, ageing, divorce, and death of close relatives have contributed to the homelessness of older people As a result, homeless older people have been facing multiple challenges such as mobility problem, health problem, economic problems, and lack of employment, social exclusion and psychological problems To cope up with these challenges, homeless older people employed different strategies such as begging, holy water, creating the social network among the homeless, drying leftover food for future use, using river water for hygiene and sanitation, and living around the churches The findings call attention to the need of practical access to services responses to curb the problems of homeless older people Key Words: Homeless, Strategies the Case of Kobo Town: North Wollo Zone, Amhara Regional State 1.1 Nature and Purpose of the Study Dear participant, my name is Getachew Gebeyaw Tadese who is second year post graduate student in Addis Ababa University School of Social Work This study is conducted for the partial fulfillment of master‟s degree of Art in Social Work The researcher has chosen the issue of this study based on self interest to investigate homeless older people living conditions and their coping strategies in the study area, especially, the reasons that lead older people to homelessness, challenges with related to their homelessness and coping strategies being utilized by homeless older people for their challenges Primarily, the purpose of conducted this study was for the partial fulfillment of degree of masters of art in social work in Addis Ababa University However, the result of the study will serve as a baseline for other researchers and policy makers to deal more about homeless older people in Ethiopia 1.2 Risks and Discomforts No risks and discomforts that are anticipated from your participation in the study because the researcher will seriously give attention for all ethical you are not comfortable with 1.3 Benefits Participation in this study is voluntarily based In the study is on a voluntary base So, being a participant in the study does not signify any direct benefit obtained from the researcher but the researcher is determined to provide free breakfast, lunch or diner for the in-depth interview participants except the key informant In-depth interview participants may lose some money from begging when they participate in the actual interview Considering this, the researcher compensates their time by covering the cost of lunch, diner or breakfast for homeless older people 1.4 In-depth Interview Procedures A voluntary based participation in the study involves conducting face to face in-depth interview that will take approximately one hour to understand homeless older people living conditions and their coping strategies by using semi-structured interview with mainly probing questions During the in-depth interview the researcher will use audio recorder to grasp all the descriptions of homeless older people about their living condition The in-depth interview will be held in Amharic and the collected raw data will be transcribed in to English The place and time of the interview will be determined by the interest of the participants that makes them to feel comfortable during the interview The researcher will make an observation in order to see the HOMELESS OLDER PEOPLE LIVING… 147 participants‟ feeling, behavior and the practical living conditions Finally, all those procedures will be applied based on the informed consent of the participant that they offer voluntarily 1.5 Confidentiality The report of the study will base on the information that you (participant) give for the researcher and the information will be seriously kept confidential Only the researcher will see and transcribe the original data gathered from in-depth interview, note taken and observation After transcription and analysis done, the researcher will discarded all the collected original data The gathered information in the study will be analyzed for the purpose of report without using any personal information‟s, such as participants name and
