Một số các động từ lại đòi hỏi tân ngữ sau nó phải là một động từ khác. Động từ làm tân ngữ được chia làm hai loại: • Loại 1: Động từ nguyên thể là tân ngữ (to + inf) • Loại 2: Động từ V-ing dùng làm tân ngữ 1. 1. Verb+ to-inf Verb+ to-inf • To-inf following these verb: want, decide, hope, promise, manage, agree, threaten, offer, attempt, fail, plan, appear, seem, pretend, afford, learn, tend, dare, ask, expect, choose, demand, determine, happen, hesitate, neglect, prove, prepare, swear, volunteer, wish, consent, care, beg, aim, trouble, refuse, would like/ love/ hate/ prefer. Ex: 1. What do you want to do? I hope to go to university next year. 2. I would like to meet you. • To-inf after question words (what, where, why, how) Ex: 1.We asked how to drive a car. 2.Have you decided where to go for holiday? • Some structures with to-inf  It’s nice/ kind/ good/ stupid/ + to-inf Ex It’s nice to meet you.  It’s+ adj+ to-inf Ex It’s interesting to read this book.  S+ to be+ too+ adj+ to-in Ex He’s too short to reach this shelf. Ex Lan decided not to buy this car. • Động từ đi sau tính từ: Một số tính từ theo sau bởi to-inf anxious boring dangerous hard eager easy good strange pleased prepared ready able usual common difficult 1.It is dangerous to drive in this weather. 2.Mike is anxious to see his family. 3.We are ready to leave now. 4.It is difficult to pass this test. •Note: able và capable có nghĩa như nhau nhưng cách dùng khác nhau: (able/ unable) to do smt = (capable/ incapable) of doing smt. Sau đây là một số động từ đòi hỏi tân ngữ là một động từ nguyên thể có đại từ làm tân ngữ gián tiếp. allow ask beg convince expect instruct invite order permit persuade prepare promise remind urge want S + V + {pronoun/ noun}(complement form) + [to + verb] . We ordered him to appear in court. I urge you to reconsider your decision. They were trying to persuade him to change his mind. The teacher permitted them to turn their assignments in late. You should prepare your son to take this examination. 2.Verb+ gerund 2.Verb+ gerund • Gerund following these verbs enjoy, love, hate, like, appreciate, mind, quit, finish, avoid, postpone, delay, keep, consider, discuss, mention, suggest, dislike, fancy, imagine, admit, deny, involve, practise, miss, risk, anticipate, detest, escape, excuse, forgive, prevent, resent, resist, understand, recall, feel like • Gerund following these expressions  Can’t help(không nhịn được) She can’t help laughing.  Can’t bear/ can’t stand( không chịu được) He can’t bear being kept waiting.  It’s worth( đáng) Is these anything here worth buying?  It’s no good/ use(chẳng ích lợi gì) You have fail marks. It’s no good crying.  It’s useless(vô ích) It’s useless arguing with them.  It’s busy. 1.John admitted stealing the jewels. 2.We enjoyed seeing them again after so many years. 3.You shouldn’t risk entering that building in its present condition. 4.He was considering buying a new car until the prices went up. 5.The Coast Guard has reported seeing another ship in the Florida Straits. • Using gerund as the object of prepositions: Ex: He gave up smoking 2 months ago. We are looking forward to hearing from you. • Trong câu phủ định, thêm not vào trước Verb-ing. • Sau đây là bảng một số động từ có giới từ theo sau, vì vậy các động từ khác đi sau động từ này phải dùng ở dạng verb-ing. approve of,be better of, count on, depend on, give up, insist on, keep on, put of, frely on, succeed in, think about, think of, worry about, object to, look forward to, confess to… • Adjective + preposition + verb-ing: accustomed to, afraid of, capable of, fond of, intent on, interested in, successful in, tired of… • Noun + preposition + verb-ing: choice of, excuse for, intention of, method for, possibility of, reason for… • Trong trường hợp tân ngữ là một V- ing thì đại từ/danh từ phải ở dạng sở hữu. Subject + verb + {pronoun/ noun} (possessive form) + verb-ing . We understand your not being able to stay longer. We object to their calling at this hour. He regrets her leaving. We are looking forward to their comming next year. We don’t approve of John’s buying this house. We resent the teacher’s not announcing the test sooner. [...]...3.Verb+to-inf # verb+ gerund • Remember+ to-inf: nhớ để thực hiện Ex: You should remember to lock the door before go out • Remember+ V_ing: nhớ lại sự việc đã được thực hiện Ex: Did you remember to turn off the electricity? I don’t know I can’t remember turning it off • Forget+ to-inf: quên làm điều gì Ex: You forgot to sign the cheque Oh, sorry • Forget+ gerund: quên điều gì đã xảy ra Ex:...
