Alexis T. Belonio is an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Management, College of Agriculture, Central Philippine University (CPU), Iloilo City, Philippines. Concurrently, he also serves as the Project Director of the CPU College of Agriculture, Appropriate Technology Center. He finished his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering and Master of Science degrees from Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. He is a Professional Agricultural Engineer (PAE) and a Fellow Member of the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers (PSAE). He was awarded as “Outstanding Professional in the Field of Agricultural Engineering” by the Professional Regulation Commission of the Office of the President, Republic of the Philippines in 1993. In that same year, he was also awarded “Outstanding Agricultural Engineer in the Field of Farm Power and Machinery” by the PSAE. In 1997, the Ten Outstanding Young Men and the Gerry Roxas Foundations awarded him as “The Outstanding Young Filipino in the Field of Agricultural Engineering.” At present, he is actively engaged in various undertakings in the fields of biomass cookstoves, gasifiers, furnaces, kilns, and ovens. He also serves as Consultant to various private manufacturerscompanies, government, and nongovernment organizations.
