PHU CU HIGH SCHOOL Created by Hoàng Văn Tân STRESS (trọng âm) Trọng âm là một phần âm trong một từ có hai âm tiết hoặc nhiều hơn 2 âm tiết đợc phát âm lớn hơn các âm khác.(kí hiệu ) Một số quy tắc cơ bản để nhận biết trọng âm(stress) trong một từ: 1/ Nouns; adjectives; adverbs trọng âm thờng rơi vào âm tiết thứ nhất(chú ý hai nguyên âm /I/ và //) ví dụ: comment/ kment/ difficulty/dl/, careful / kel/, quickly/ kwkl/. 2/ Verb: trọng âm thơng rơi vào âm tiết thứ 2(chú ý hai nguyên âm /I/ và //) vi dụ: report/ rp:t/, enjoy/ /, return/:/, destroy// 3/ Trọng âm thờng không rơi vào hai nguyên âm /I/ và / /) đợc áp dung cho Nouns; adjectives; adverbs, Verbs ví dụ : abandon pleasure 4/ Trọng âm thờng rơi vào trớc các hậu tố(suffixes) ION, TAL , LITY, CITY, NITY, RITY, SARY, SITY, IA, LOGY, IAN, IAL IOUS, OW, , Vi dụ: exhibition, vision, university, scientific Ngoại Trừ (exceptions): rhetoric, lunatic, catholic, arithmetic, politics, Arabic 5) Stress on the following ending syllỏbles:( (trng õm ri vo cỏc õm cui) ADE, OO, OON, EE, EEN, EER, ESE, ISE, IZE, AIRE, SELF ví dụ: pickaboo, millionaire, cocoon, analyze, engineer, themselves 6/ Trọng âm thờng không rơi vào các tiền tố(prefix) và tiền tố không làm thay đổi trọng âm của từ gốc(root word) ví dụ: dislike, unhappy, uncertain disappointed, unashamed, irrational 7/ Trờng hợp hai từ ghép lai với nhau thành một từ mang nghĩa trong âm thờng rơi vao t đứng trớc.
