Geology is the science and study of the Earth, its composition, structure, physical properties, history, and the processes that shape it Geologist in addition to studying and practicing geology engage in the search and extraction of metals, oil and other resources They try to understand and predict major disasters like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes What is Geography? Geography is the study of the earth’s landscapes, peoples, places and environments Geography is unique in bridging the gap between the social sciences (human geography) and the natural sciences (physical geography) Modern geographers are the main users of GIS and are employed by local, state and federal government agencies, NGO’s as well as the private sector ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES UNDERGRADUATE Geography Geology Major in Geography (BSc) Major in Geology (BSc) Major in Geography (BA) Minor in Geology (BSc) Minor in Geography (BSc or BA) POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES The Department currently offers: •MPhil & PhD in Geography •MPhil & PhD in Geology ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Geography Geology Meet faculty Requirements and CXC Geography Meet faculty requirements Commitments to be aware of: Fieldwork Fieldwork/Field classes are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays All fieldwork in Geography and Geology is Mandatory Field Trips, Field Work and Field Classes Field trips and field work are an active and integral part of the work and study of the department They are both educational and fun!
