INTRODUCTION 1.1 PURPOSE This method statement describes the methodology for brick wall and plastering on brick walls of Factory No.1 Brickwork will be carried out after all constructions of relevant concrete structures such as slab, columns completed The concrete work constructions were covered by the other submittals, therefore they will no longer be discussed in this method statement Most of brickwork are for walls of Utilities Building and will be applied from the ground to 1st floor of building All walls will close the spaces between concrete structures of column to column and slab to slab, therefore they are classified in non-load-bearing walls There will be some openings on the brick wall at location of doors and windows Around these openings, reinforcement concrete stiffener and lintel beams will be cast before to carry out the brick walls After brick walls have been completed, the plastering will be applied on both sides of them, if any 1.2 DEFINITIONS: PROJECT PARTICULARS: tiling, the joints are to be raked out as the work proceeds to form key for the plaster Prior to resuming masonry work, remove loose units and loose mortar, clean exposed surfaces of set masonry and wet units lightly c) Application: Brick will be generally laid in running bond - Form bed joints of thick layer of mortar slightly furrowed or battered Bevel or pyramid the bed mortar Form head joints by applying a full coat of mortar on the brick to be laid First layer will be solid brick Lay closure brick with mortar on each bedding surface of unit to be laid and units in place Place brick carefully without colliding to brick previous laid Strike flush joints Tool vertical joints first then brush joints to remove all loose and excess mortar Repeat this sequence for next course d) Cleaning, curing and protection: - Remove immediately concrete scum, mortar and grout stain on the wall during construction - After the wall is constructed it should not be saturated with water for curing or any other purposes SMC-Factory No.1/MS-Brickwork Page 17 CÔNG TY CỔ PHẦN XÂY LẮP THƯƠNG MẠI Architects & Construction Service Corporation - When or where the atmosphere is dry, the masonry wall shall have its surface dampened with water during a curing period for the mortar of (Three) days - Protect completed work: (a) Keep completed walls clean and protect from staining (b) Cover top of walls with waterproof covering or membrane to prevent rain or mortar stain (c) Do not apply uniform loads for at least 12 hours or concentrated loads for at least 72 hours after masonry is After line marking inspected and accepted by Kajima, carry out the drilling work for dowel bar installation - Drill holes of 8mm diameter with depth of 10cm ,then remove all drill dust inside drilled holes with air compressor - Insert dowel bars (ϕ6) into concrete column by Sikadur 731 - Mix components of Sikadur 731 & apply it into drilled holes - Install dowel bars into hole at depth of 10cm of the end without bituminous paint - Cure for 24 hours - Roughening concrete surface by hammer  - Step 4: Brick Laying Brick must be clean & wet with water before laying First layer of brick to be laid for adjustment of level with one layer of solid brick Lay brick layer by layer with join width 8-15mm thick The height of brick wall for each stage allowed is: + Single brick wall: 1.0m to 1.50 + Double brick wall: 1.50m to 2.0m SMC-Factory No.1/MS-Brickwork Page 19 CÔNG TY CỔ PHẦN XÂY LẮP THƯƠNG MẠI Architects & Construction Service Corporation - Where there is not enough space for laying whole width of brick, the half- brick or cut brick will be used at length to fit the actual space Breaking brick by trowel, hammer not allowed Fill in joint with mortar & joint must be full of mortar After laid, mortar joint must be checked for thickness, crack, looseness…  Step 5: Preparation and casting stiffener columns & beams - During laying of brick wall, the space for stiffeners will be formed - Install the steel rebar connecting to the starter bars installed during casting ground beams/slab - Fix the rebar in the right position with spacers and tie wires - Apply the formwork both sides of wall and fix them securely - Casting concrete grade B15 and vibrate well - Apply the same method with the lintels on the top of laid walls - Dimension of stiffeners, lintels and their reinforcement will comply with the typical design in shop drawings  Step 6: Curing SMC-Factory No.1/MS-Brickwork Page 20 CÔNG TY CỔ PHẦN XÂY LẮP THƯƠNG MẠI Architects & Construction Service
