TEACHING PRONUNCIATION Presented by NHL, Teacher of Tran Phu School Why to teach pronunciation? What to teach? When to teach pronunciation? How to teach pronunciation?     1. Why to teach pronunciation? – to improve intelligibility – to create the best impression in particular situations – because of the inconsistent relationship between pronunciation and writing (different spelling but same pronunciation)  confusion Pronunciation’s problems – (1) using the wrong sound – (2) leaving sounds out – (3) adding sounds – (4) putting stress on the wrong syllable in a word – (5) putting stress on the wrong syllable in a sentence – (6) using the wrong intonation pattern – (7) combinations of these problems 2.
