1 My sister’s going to travel by car from Italy She’s not going to speak a Latin language She’s going to walk through the Brandenburg Gate She’s going to see the rests of a tragically famous wall She’s going to eat lots of würstel I’m not going to travel far from Italy I’m going to walk along the Seine banks I’m going to visit a famous monument made of iron I’m going to eat very good crêpes I’m going to drink some champagne 1 My family and I are going to fly for quite a lot of hours We’re going to stay in the largest city in the country We’re going to speak Spanish We’re going to eat a very good asado We’re going to watch a Tango show My brother’s going to travel by plane He’s going to see the famous statue of Columbus in front of the port He’s going to visit a famous cathedral which has not been finished yet He’s going to drink sangria He’s going to visit the Camp Nou Stadium 1 My aunt’s going to fly for several hours She’s going to see the beautiful beach of Ipanema She’s going to visit a famous statue at the top of a mountain, which represents Jesus Christ She’s going to speak Portuguese She’s going to dance Samba I’m going I’m going I’m going I’m going I’m going to speak English to eat haggis to visit a famous castle that dominates the skyline of the city to see men wearing typical skirts to listen to people playing bagpipes 1 My friends and I are going to travel to a cold country We aren’t going to speak the local language We’re going to visit a famous museum called The Hermitage We’re going to see people drinking vodka As a souvenir, we’re going to buy some dolls called Matriosca My family and I are going to walk around the city We’re going to walk over a lot of bridges We’re going to see a lot of objects made of glass As a souvenir, we’re going to buy a mask We’re going to go on a tour by gondola My brother’s going to travel to a capital city He’s going to speak Spanish He’s going to see some murals painted by Diego Rivera at the National Palace 4 He’s going to eat tacos and enchiladas He’s going to see some mariachis My uncle’s going to practise his English He’s going to go up a panoramic wheel to see the city He’s going to see the statue of Nelson in a famous square As a souvenir, he’s going to buy a red bus He’s going to eat fish and chips Activity Instructions Advice: Cut out the cards and , if possible, laminate them so you can use them many times Rules: One student comes to the front of the class and introduces the activity using the sentence “I’m going to speak about my brother’s/ sister’s/ family’s, etc plans for next holidays” Then, slowly, he/she starts reading the clues about the city the other students have to guess You can give points like this: • Guessed after the 1st clue: points (nearly impossible!) • Guessed after the 2nd clue: points • Guessed after the 3rd clue: points, etc If a student only guesses the country and not the city, give him/her point, no matter after which clue it has been guessed But only if after all the clues nobody manages to guess the city Encourage your students to be patient and listen to at least or clues (unless they are completely sure of their guess), to avoid them telling cities and countries at random If a student says the wrong country or city, he/she cannot try again until the next card is read VARIATION: Instead of reading the clues on the cards, your students can practice asking questions to guess the mysterious city Some examples can be the ones below: Who is going to go on holiday? (This is the only WH-question they can ask All the others must be Yes/No questions to make the activity more challenging.) Are you going to visit any museums? Are you going to speak Italian? Is it going to be a long journey? Are you going to buy any souvenirs? Are you going to travel to somewhere in Europe? Are you going to see any shows? Is your sister going to drink tea? Are you and your friends going to go to the beach? 10 etc Encourage your students to think about other questions and to pay attention to the subject in each case, e.g If I’m going to speak about my sister, they have to ask questions in the rd person singular If they are not able to guess the city after having asked a high number of Yes/No-questions, allow them to try asking some Wh-ones The student who guesses the city, wins the card The student with the most cards at the end is the winner
