Unloading airport terminal and charge airport charges like warehousing charge, splitting bill fees…The next step is cargo release and truck loading After that, we transfer the goods from airport’s warehouse to factory arrival and charge inland trucking fees Besides, we charge handling fee for import cargo only because after the goods arrived to airport, it immediately move to warehouse of airport; in here, the warehouse staffs will divide goods following House B/L and Master B/L This step is the most time – consuming because the conditions of warehouse airport in Vietnam are very weak and under standardize c OCEAN – EXPORT INTERNSHIP REPORT The goods for ocean – exporting usually have large volume so the first step is pre - export customs; it consists of preparing the customs documents and CDs That is the most time – consuming and difficult to reduce the taxes After the goods are transferred from departure factory to container yard, we make CD transit, we have charge some fees such as: trucking fee, custom supervisor fee and local charges (THC, seal fee, B/L fee, CFS) Then the goods are loaded to the cargo and transfer to the port departure d OCEAN – IMPORT Ocean – import is nearly similar to the air –import but in ocean – import, we have to charge both of D/O fee (pay for shipping) and Handling fee (pay for forwarder) In the other hand, in air – import, we pay Checking House B/L, Master B/L, C/O, invoice INTERNSHIP REPORT  Checking House B/L and Master B/L or C/O means that checking about: consignee name, vessel no, port of loading, port of discharge, container no and seal no, no and kind of goods, description of goods, gross weight and measurement, date on board, total number of container or package  Checking invoice means that checking Seri no, are wrong or missing should make notes right on the list to add or fix INVOICE INTERNSHIP REPORT MASTER B/L INTERNSHIP REPORT HOUSE B/L INTERNSHIP REPORT C/O INTERNSHIP REPORT 3.5.2 Learning about basic sea freight operations The purpose of this learning is to understand what type of containers are used and what kind of equipment are used during the whole freight operations and to know which vessel is selected for each shipment There are four major container types, the 20’, 40’, 40’ high and the 45 foot containers I see which container is used while shipping While using these containers on the Vietnam highways, a 40’ container cannot have more than 44000lbs of cargo weight to operate on the highway A 20’ container can have no more than 45,000 lbs of cargo weight to operate on a highway An interesting fact is that a 20’ container has a heavier payload because of its tri-axle chassis and the fact that the 20’container is 2425 lbs lighter than the 40’ container Chassis are equipment used to carry the load on the highway and sometimes the drivers are penalized if they are carrying a heavy load The following table shows how weight and balance are very important for containers and use of equipment like chassis and how these containers must balance on a vessel In the International Logistics class, I have seen pictures of containers that are overweight or not placed in the balanced manner and a lot of mishap happens The forwarder point out the dangers of overloading and asks the importers to ship less than the maximum weight 20ft standard container 40ft standard container WEIGHTS GIVEN TO THE CUSTOMER 16300kg 19000kg 40ft High Cube container 19000kg CONTAINER TYPE MAXIMUM VOLUME 25cbm 55cbm 60cbm 3.5.3 Learning about the basic principles and concepts of international sea freight transportation: INTERNSHIP REPORT Understand the basic principles and concepts of international sea freight transportation including the flow and stages of sea freight shipment My understanding of the flow and stages can be illustrated by a flow chart I impact this flow when I open a file for a shipment When the shipment of Konet computer system is at a 1300 status which means the cargo is on the ship, that’s when I can go in the system and open and see the documentations match up I have learned 800 statuses are used to show the shipment has not yet been shipped INTERNSHIP REPORT PART 4: INTERNSHIP RESULTS 4.1 Theoretical knowledge After the internship period and applying the learned knowledge from some subjects such as: International Business, Technical of Foreign Trade, International Trade Management, Organizational Management, Business Culture…I have strengthened a lot of knowledge from practice as well as theory  Strategic: business strategic, marketing strategic, human resources strategic…  Distribution: direct shipment, cross docking…  Management: organizational management, business culture…  Export and import: customs documents, sales documents… 4.2 Skills During the internship period, I have learned more necessary skills for the job as:  Technical skills: Using computer fluently is compulsory requirement for anybody in import – export sector because nowadays, all of customs documents and related paper are processed directly through the internet Office software is being used every time and I realize this software can be very useful For example, Konet has software called “Konet Forwarding Management” to manage all activities and transactions out or in As an intern, I worked with this software and I think that it is the most important to operate fluently all activities in here  Work skills: self – initiative in the work, know what to to finish the work as fast as possible In particular, in Konet, if the customers want their goods have to go as soon as possible by sea, the company has to contact immediately to the shipping company to book ship and right away all paperwork and procedures to be done very quickly and accurately Any procedure must be quick and carry out carefully In months working as an intern, I felt that the pace of working in Konet is indeed very fast and sometimes very pressure but I really love it because I am a younger with a passion to learn more INTERNSHIP REPORT  Presentation and negotiation skills: persuade customers know how to make customers believe in the services of the company Communicate with customer required patient and I have to choose the way to describe to customer as easiest as I can Sometimes, I need to take more time to make them to understand clearly about the costs that may arise in transport of goods Based on the customer’s need, I improvise to be suitable with each of them  Ability to analyze and solve situation: know the lessons learned from the risks, learning experiences of predecessors 4.3 Attitude: From months of internship in Konet, I learned more about the attitude of working from my colleagues and peers so I think a person who can a good job should have qualities such as:  Enthusiastic and hardworking: because the competition in the market is the fact we can’t deny, only the energetic and enthusiastic can pursue this long – term career The customer is not always possible to be appointed during office hour, so it should require the active and enthusiastic  Patience and prudence: when meet the fastidious customers and require much that would make great pressure so we need to calmly explain to them slowly to avoid causing misunderstanding and conflicts  Decisive and steadfast: all import – export activities comply with the laws and regulations that are enacted by government so it should require a decisive to ensure that no violation of the provisions and requirements of state 4.4 Conclusion: Through this internship, I have had memorable and pleasure experiences around smart, skilled, flexible, open- minded peers and seniors and learned many lessons, trained myself to be able to adapt to the working environment in the near future In addition, the internship program has been a very positive experience Interns could bring a fresh outlook, enthusiasm and energy which benefits all in the office environment Even during internship, I have faced with many difficulties, but INTERNSHIP REPORT these are also profound lessons for me as well Currently, since months I interned at Konet, I and my team signed transportation contracts for my company Besides, with the help of predecessors, I completed 10 customs documents The manager really satisfied with the newbie like me and he had proposed to human department that would keep me as official staff as long as I finished my internship period This is the deserved prize for me and shows that managers always create a chance for new staff to show their potential working ability Especially I have formed a clear concept of the actual working environment, as well as more mature in relationship with co-worker Besides that, I also selfassessment and redirect my future career appropriately I overcome my weaknesses and maximize the strengths in teamwork environment Besides the working time, I also have a chance to join Year – End party of Konet, in here, it showed the corporate culture which I just have learned from the book only It showed the best business result over the year and also gave rewards for good staffs that got excellent work during the year I considered this was recognition for any staffs and motivate them try harder to contribute to the company Not only crate the motivation for staffs bye also indirectly shoe the way how good is Konet manage human resoures In daily working I have felt the friendly atmosphere among people; there are no distance between managers and staffs, experienced staffs or newbies Everybody is ready to help other whenever they can and I really highly – appreciated this working environment Especially in the context of international business, this feature is very necessary Over the internship at Konet, by using the knowledge I got at school with the assistance from the staffs, I have completed my awareness I have formed an overview about working environment at an actual and professional company In addition to strengths, Konet still have difficulties Currently, in fierce competitive environment, with only years of establishment, Konet still considered a newbie in export – import sector It really is a great difficulty compared with large companies such as DHL, LACCO, Keyline, and VIJAI…Therefore Konet need stronger marketing and organizational plans and strategies to overcome it INTERNSHIP REPORT REFERENCE LIST: • http://logistics4vn.com/ [Online] (2015) Available at: http://logistics4vn.com/tong-hop-chung-tu-trong-giao-nhan-hang- hoa-phan-1/ [Accessed on 1st March 2016] •
