Topic 1: Topic 1: Talk about some changes that you like in this city and some changes that you don’t like. Why? Managed by the governments, local authorities of our country, we are proud of the developments of our city. We are glad that there are a lot of tall buildings, big companies, modern houses, good services, wide streets, parks,… Our living condition is improving a lot. On the other hand, there are also some changes that affect badly to us such as there are a lot of factories, they cause water pollution, air pollution. There are a lot of Internet services, so students rush into there, they ignore their study. Moreover people become rich, they buy their children modern motorcycles. Days after days, there are so many motorcycles, they easily cause fatal accidents. The best way is that we should use public transportation. Topic 2: Topic 2: People often say life is getting faster every year. Does faster mean better? I think nowadays our life is becoming faster. For example: There are many kinds of modern machines, computers,…our work becomes better, faster. They can produce more products. Nowadays, we have a lot of labor saving devices for the home such as: vacuum cleaners, washing machines, refrigerators,… they help the housewives have more free time. Modern means of transportations help people travel faster. Modern means of communication such as: mobile phones, emails,… can bring people closer together. We also have good conditions in our life. Thanks to telephones, fax, mobile phones, … we can get information quickly. However, there are much pollution from cars, factories, … The air, land, ocean … are seriously polluted. There are more accidents, more disasters … Our work becomes busier, we have no time to relax, we don’t have enough time to take care of our family. In general speaking, I think faster means better and busier. Topic 3: Topic 3: The generation gap in the modern Vietnamese family? I live in a small family. There are two generations: my parents and me. There are some advantages living in a small family. My parents love me very much. So, they share me their experience in their life. And I have a lot of good conditions in my life. My family isn’t so noisy as big families but the atmosphere is always cozy. We are very happy together. However, there are some disadvantages such as their thoughts and their ideas are different from me. Sometimes, they look after me so carefully, I am not free at all. My mother thinks the girls shouldnt wear jeans. There are so many generations gaps that I cant tell you all. I hope our modern society can gradually change their own ideas. Topic 4: Topic 4: Teenager drug addiction in Ho Chi Minh city? As you know, Ho Chi Minh city is one of the most modern city in our country but I think it is a complicated city with full of drug addiction. However, most of teenagers are interested in their study but some of them dont care. They rush into drug addiction, there are a lot of bad results caused by drug addiction such as fatal races, robbing, aids, Those affect quite badly to their families, our society and our country. To prevent the problems, the local authority should manage their areas well, the media agencies should work better and the parents should take care of their children better. I often shop in a department store. A department store is much cleaner than a traditional market. Goods are displayed into sections at a department store. So it’s easy for us to buy things. Moreover, we can buy many things at reasonable prices. At a department store, we don’t like bargaining very much; it’s time consuming. Besides, there is a variety of goods at a department store. Topic 4 : How often do you use public transportation ? I sometimes use public transportation such as taxi, bus, car, and coach to Ho Chi Minh City. Nowadays it’s easy for us to catch a bus or take a taxi. It’s comfortable to travel by means of public transportation. Most buses or coaches have air conditioners. They also have good services. However, travelling by public transportation is rather expensive. The government should upgrade the systems of transportation and decrease the fare. Topic 5 :How often do you eat out ? What is your favorite restaurant ? I often eat out with my family on public holidays. My favorite restaurant is Chuong Duong. It is on 30- 4 Street. It is near Tien River. The type of book I often read is science book. In my room , there are many books which was collected through many years by me. I like reading books because it help me to know about the world, people every where. it is also a relaxing way after work hours. Some said that: “Tell me what you are reading and I will tell you who you are”. For me, a good book is always a good teacher guiding me through life as well as a true companion encouraging me and consulting me in my life. Good books are good friends and good teachers . Firstly, They are our friends because they can support us , help us , share with us the fellings and knowledges. you can carry your books anywhere and take the time to read it. Secondly, About teachers , Good books teach us many knowledges, things we should do or shouldn't do. The books help us explain many problems that we don’t understand deeply about everything in the world literature, science, sociology, anthropology, technology and economics. The most important thing is they never let us down . I went to school for the first time when I was only seven years old but I can recollect all the happenings on that day. The day before my school opened, my father asked me to keep my books ready. The next morning, I woke up very early. Then I bathed and dressed myself neatly. Then my father took me to school. In the school I saw a number of new boys and girls waiting in the corridor. They were all like me in the school for the first time. I was then taken to a classroom. For sometime, I found myself helpless, but it did not take much time for me to be friendly with other students. After two periods, they began to tease me, I was much annoyed. During the recess time, all my classmates gathered around me. One pulled my shirt while another pulled my ear. A third boy challenged for a fight. I was frightened and began to cry. My teacher seeing me crying came to me and asked me why I was crying. When I told him my “story”, the teacher punished the boys, and from that time onwards they stopped bullying me. We had no lessons on the first day. But lessons started from the second day. I was really happy to be in school on the first day. It was indeed a memorable day. Topic 2: Your favourite hobby and why you enjoy it Everybody has his or her own hobby. For me, my favorite hobby is reading books. My father TEST 21 Describe your first day at school as a child That morning my mother woke me up earlier than usual. She urged me to get dressed and take breakfast quickly then tenderly took me to school. On the way to school I met other children of my age accompanied by their parents to school. The nearer I came to the school gate, the more nervous I became. Suddenly a strange feeling of fear and worry seized my heart when I saw the majestic elementary school in front of me and I felt like crying when my mother said good bye to me and put some coins into my pocket. Never before had I been forced to separate from my beloved mother! But when I saw old pupils laughing and talking merrily I regained my composure. After the droll of a drum, we were instructed to stand in line to salute the colours and then go into our classes. A young and mild-looking teacher greeted us at the door. And in a gentle voice, he taught us the first lesson that we never forget! TEST 22 Your favourite hobby My hobby is reading books. I inherited a valuable collection of books from my deceased father and up till now my cultural treasures have been preserved carefully. Reading books broadens my mind improves my knowledge. They help me distinguish the bad from the good and prevent me from doing wrong. Reading books brings me minutes of happiness and pleasures. I have found a source of consolation and encouragement in books when I am in despair. They're my true companions indeed. How relieved and comforted I feel when I can find in good books good teachers and friends! Instead of indulging myself in futile entertainments, I often absorbed in reading interesting books which always have miracles to soothe my sorrows and hardships and reveal to me strange and new horizons. TEST 23 Which season of the year do you like best? Why? I was born in Northern Vietnam, where there are four clear seasons: Spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season has its own charms and attractions. For example, spring is the season which offers beautiful flowers and warm weather; summer is the season of nice holidays when we can enjoy lots of outdoor activities such as picnicking, camping, swimming, fishing etc... Autumn is so beautiful with its ideal weather while winter can give us such delight as gathering by a fire to chat or tell each other funny stories. As far as I am concerned, I like autumn best because of the following reasons: During autumn, which lasts more or less from late July to early October, it is sunny most of the time. The Autumnal sun is often splendid, dying nature yellow. The weather is also ideal because it is not too cold or too hot. Then the coldish northwesterly wind, which blows gently, thrills everyone with the breath of autumn. The leaves of the trees turning yellow or red put a gorgeous coat of colours on nature. Autumn is such a wonderful season that many poems and songs have been composed to sing the praises of the season. Autumn is also a season which reminds me of my first day at school, when my mother took me by the hand and led me to school for the first time. Last but not least, autumn is the time when I can enjoy my favourite fruit and dish which are the Japanese persimmons and the green rice flakes. These are found only in autumn. TEST 24 Smoking damages our health (Smoking is harmful to our health) Over the last thirty years, thanks to the efforts of various branches of science and technology, research has proved that smoking damages health and shortens man's life-span. According to a diagram released by the World's Health Organization (WHO), the number of people who die of diseases connected to smoking is increasing more and more. The more science and technology learn, the more damage caused by smoking is discovered. Therefore, it seems that we can never put a final stop to the list of harm caused by smoking.
