Trần thuật lại câu nói trực tiếp She said: “I have worked here for one year”  She said that she had worked there for one year Trong cách trần thuật thường dùng từ said (hoặc say) để viết lại câu. Chủ ngữ câu trực tiếp cần chuyển đổi cho phù hợp với ý trần thuật. Nếu trần thuật thời đơn, tức dùng “say” động từ câu trực tiếp không cần phải thay đổi Nếu trần thuật thời khứ (đa số trường hợp này), tức dùng said động từ câu trực tiếp cần lùi lại thì, tức là: - Hiện => Quá khứ - Hiện tiếp diễn => Quá khứ tiếp diễn - Hiện hoàn thành => Quá khứ hoàn thành - Quá khứ => Quá khứ hoàn thành - Quá khứ tiếp diễn => Quá khứ hoàn thành tiếp diễn - Tương lai gần => would + V - Can => Could, may => might, shall => should Và có số từ cần thay đổi - this => that - these => those - here => there - tomorrow => the next day, the day after, the following day - yesterday => the day before Chú ý: Nếu câu trực tiếp diễn tả chân lý, điều hiển nhiên động từ không cần thay đổi chuyển sang câu trần thuật Bài tập: Chuyển câu sau sang câu trần thuật 1.
