LESSON PLAN Unit 12: THE ASIAN GAMES Period 3: Listening Time allotted: 45 minutes Class: 11B1 (Room: 17) Date: 13/03/2011 Teacher in charge: Tong Nu Kieu Thu Trainee teacher: Hoang Thi Hoai Giang I. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - listen for specific information in “The Asian Games Report”. - know how to work in pairs or in groups. II. Teaching Aids and Materials: textbook, posters, handouts, cassette tapes. III. Procedure: Stages/ Times Activities Work arrangement Warm- up (5mins) Game: MIMING - T divides the students into two groups (Group A and Group B) - T tells students that they will play a game MIMING. - T gives some instructions: I have 4 pieces of papers of 4 sport’s names. Takes turns to choose the paper. Use your body language to express the words. The group that has a correct answer will get 2 points. The group can not have a correct answer; the other group can answer and get 1 point. The group with more points will win the game. - T uses the technique: STEP- BY- STEP to check the instructions. - T lets students play the games and declares the winner. 1. weightlifting 2. bodybuilding 3. fencing 4. cycling Group work Lead- in: (1 minute) Today, we will listen to a report on the 3 rd day of the Asian Games UNIT 12: THE ASIAN GAMES Listening Whole class Pre- Aims: to help students to be familiar to the sounds and the Whole class, listening (5 mins) meaning of some key words of the listening lesson. * Useful language: Useful language Techniques freestyle (n) picture, explanation bar (n) picture, explanation land (v) example, explanation gymnast (n) picture, explanation gymnasium (n) picture, explanation * Step of presenting useful language: + T reads the new word out clearly. + T elicits the new word. + T models it 2 times. + T asks students repeat it in chorus 2 times. + T asks students repeat it individually 2 times. + T writes the new word on the board. + T checks the new word: T (English word) - SS (Vietnamese meaning). + T asks students to copy the new words in the notebook. individual work While- listening (22 mins) Aims: - to help students to be able to listen for specific information in “The Asian Games Report”. Activity 1: Multiple Choice - T gives some instructions: “Work in pairs. Read the handout in 1 minute. Listen to the passage 3 times and choose the best answers”. - T uses the technique: SAY- DO- CHECK to check the instructions. - T delivers the handouts. Listen to the passage 2 times and decide if the following statements are true (T) or false (F)”. - T uses the technique: SAY- DO- CHECK to check the instructions. - T delivers the handouts. Activity 2: True/ False statements 1. Yoko won the bronze medal in women’s swimming; she set a new world record time of 1 minute 58 seconds. 2. Lily got an average of 9.5 points in her gymnastics event. 3. Lee Bong Ju jumped 8.9 m and he won the gold medal in men’s high jump. 4. T Post- listening (7 mins) Activity 3: Listen a song and fill in blanks - T gives some instructions: “Work in groups. Choose a group leader and a secretary. Listen to the song and fill in the lyrics of song: Waving flag (K’naan). After the CD stops, the group leader will go to the board and write down the answers”. - T uses the technique: STEP- BY- STEP to check the instructions. Activity 3: Work in group.
