LESSON PLAN 2 Unit 12: Music Lesson: Language focus Period: 10 Date: 17 / 03 / 2010 Class: 10 A2 Supervisor: Than Trong Lien Tan Student: Mai Thi Lanh I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the Ss will be able to:  Distinguish the sounds /s/ and /z/  Pronounce the words and sentences containing the sounds correctly  Use to + infinitive to express purposes and make Wh-questions II. Teaching aids: posters and blackboard III. Procedure Stages Teacher’s activities Ss’ activities Warm-up (5’)  Game: Find out /s/ - /z/ • Divide the class into 2 team : A and B • Give the rule: Firstly, close their textbooks. One member representing for each group will go to black board to write down these words in their right column. Words: relax, bus, zip, buzz, sip,, prize, piece, price, sue, finds, zoo • Check the instructions:  What are you going to do?  Who will be the winner? • Let Ss play game • Give gift Key: / s /: relax, bus, sip, piece, price, sue / z / : zip, buzz, finds, prize, zoo • Lead in the new lesson: Now, today we will learn how to pronounce / s / and / z / • Listen and answer • Play game • Have more correct answers • listen Pronunciation (10’) Activity 1: Pronouncing the two sounds separately • Model two sounds twice • Pronounce the sound and ask Ss to repeat Activity 2: Pronouncing the words containing the sounds • Read the words in each column all at once • Read the words once again, each time with a word in each column to help Ss distinguish the differences between the sounds in the words • Read the words and ask Ss to repeat • Call on some Ss to read again • Correct Ss and give feedback Activity 3: Read the sentences with words containing the sounds • Stick a poster on the blackboard: 1. S usan loves classical music 2. I like to listen to the jazz records 3. But my cousin prefers going to concerts. 4. He’s won the first prize for singing folk songs. • Read each sentence one by one and ask Ss to go to blackboard and write down sounds /s/ and /z/ for each underlined syllable. • Give model: for example, I read “Susan loves classical music” I will write: s z z s z • Call on some Ss to go to blackboard to write one by one sentence • Correct and give feedback • Pronounce • repeat • Write the sounds . Grammar(25’ ) 1. to + infinitive: for purposes  Setting the scene: • Stick a picture on the blackboard (appendix) • Elicit Ss the target language (structure) • Model the conversation by asking some questions: T: What time is it? Where are they? Are there a lot of people? • Ask Ss to fill in the question and the answer between Lan and Mai in the picture. Lan: ……… they come here…? Mai: … … do morning exercises. • Ask Ss to repeat the sentence when they have completed. • Ask Ss “Which question does Lan ask Mai?” “What is the answer to this question?” “What does the infinitive phrase here tell you about?” So, you see “What …….for?” is used to ask for “what”? Wh-question:  Review: • Write a sentence on the blackboard and elicit Ss: “An usually has breakfast with her sister at 6.30 am in the morning.” • Ask Ss : Now I will underlined “An”, so who can ask with Wh-question?” • Call on Ss to give the answer. • Underline “breakfast” and ask “Who can ask with Wh-question?” • Underline “6.30 in the morning” and ask “ Who can ask with Wh-question?” • Give handouts : question words and their purposes: • Explain for Ss • Answer: • Who usually has breakfast with her sister at 6.30 in the morning? • What does An usually have with her sister at 6.30 am in the morning? • When does An have breakfast with her sister?
