Class description: - Number of students: 26 students, 1 boy and 25 girls - Grade: 10 th - Language Proficiency: Pre – intermediate II. Time: 45 minutes III. Objectives: After the lesson, Ss will be able to:  Skills: - Listen for specific information and detailed information. - Talk about the famous football player: Pele’.  Language: - Know more about the certain expressions and vocabulary items related to the topic “The World Cup”. IV. Assumed knowledge - Ss have already known some vocabulary items related to the topic. - Students are familiar with working in pairs and groups. V. Anticipated problems - There may be time left, so the teacher should prepare an extra listening exercise. VI. Teaching aids: Textbook, computer, tape recorder, handout, blackboard, chalk. VII. Warm up ( 5m ) Competition game: Guessing game. - Motivate students - Draw students’ attention into the lesson. - Engage students to related topic: “ The World Cup” Technique: Give the instructions (say-do- check) and let Ss play game: Guessing game - Greet the class: “Good morning everyone! How are you today? What’s the date today? - Attract students’ attention by asking: Would you like to play a game? - Introduce the game for the class: (Say): “We are going to play a game called guessing game - Give instructions for the game (Say): Now, let’s me tell you how to play this exciting game. “I’m going to divide you guys into 2 big groups, this side is group A, and this side is group B. Here I have 12 pieces of paper with 12 pictures related to the topic “The World Cup”. Two groups will take turn to play the game. Each time, one member from one group - Listen to the teacher’s instructions. - Work in groups. - Give the answer to T. 09E11 Page 2 January 17 th , 2013 [DESIGNED BY: NGUYEN THI MINH & LE THI QUYNH] comes to the board, and chooses one paper with picture. Then your task is to describe (maybe use action, gestures, face expressions, body language and speak in English only) the pictures to other Ss in your group, who have to guess the words related to those pictures. If your group can guess the right word, you get 1 point for your group. For each correct guess, your group gets 1 point. Remember: You have a maximum of 30 seconds for describing each picture. After 30 seconds, if your group cannot guess what the word is, then the other groups get the chance to describe the picture, and get point. - Ss take turn to be the representative. After all the pictures have been 09E11 Page 3 January 17 th , 2013 [DESIGNED BY: NGUYEN THI MINH & LE THI QUYNH] guessed, the game ends. - Model for the class to help them fully understand (Do). - Then check to make sure that all Ss understand how to play by asking some questions (Check): “How many groups do we have?” (two groups) “Will two groups play at the same time or take turn?(take turn) “Can you speak, or describe the picture in Vietnamese?(No) “For the next word, does the same member of each group continue to play?” (No) “Are you ready? Ok, let’s start” - Have the first Ss from one group to come to the board, chooses one picture, describe for other Ss in his/her group to guess. - 1 point for each correctly guessed word 09E11 Page 4 January 17 th , 2013 [DESIGNED BY: NGUYEN THI MINH & LE THI QUYNH] - Continue with other pictures. - Get the whole class to count the points. Penalty - Get students to the topic: (Say) Through these World cups, many legendary football players have been discovered. And today, we will start the new lesson to know about one of them. 2. Before listening ( 15m ) - Motivated to listen. - Provide the context for the listening - To activate students’ back ground knowledge about the topic. - To prepare students - Teacher shows the picture of Pele - (Say) Now, class look at the picture. Ok, do you know the man in the picture? Yeah, excellent it means “giải vô địch, chức vô địch” - T writes the word on the board and asks Ss to repeat 3 times. 3. Hero (n) /hɪərəʊ/: người anh hùng - Ok, class you know “Lê Lợi, Quang Trung- Nguyễn Huệ”. And we call them with what the special name is. T elicits the stress of the word and asks Ss to repeat 3 times. 5.
