332 Adjusting the lighting Adobe Photoshop CS4 Digital Classroom 13 Adjusting the lighting When working with 3D objects in Photoshop, you can control the lighting, and add additional light sources, or change the position and direction of the default lighting. In this part of the lesson, you will adjust the lighting to be more intense, thereby improving the readability of the text on the can. 1 With the ps1301_work  le still open, and the 3D panel still open, scroll down to the  rst In nite Light 2 and click on it. 2 In the options below, use the slider to change the intensity to a value of 2. The light becomes br ighter. Select In nite Light 2, then increase the light intensity. You can experiment with the placement of the light by using the Rotate the Light button ( ) in the 3D panel. In this part of the lesson, you simply select the Rotate the Light button and randomly reposition the light; no speci c coordinates are necessary. As mentioned earlier, no speci c coor dinates are required for this; simply  nd a location that you feel works well for the image. 4 Press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Command+S (Mac OS) to save the  le . Keep the ps1301_work  le open for the next part of the lesson. Animating the soda can You touched on some animation techniques in Lesson 12; now you will have the opportunity to make your can go for a spin. 1 Using the 3D Rotate tool, click and drag the 3D image in the image area, so that the man’s face is facing forward. Use the 3D Rotate tool to reposition the can. 2 Choose Window > Animation. If the Animation window does not say ANIMATION (TIMELINE) on the tab, click and hold down on the Animation’s panel menu and choose Convert to Timeline from the drop-down menu. Then click on the stopwatch icon ( ) to the left of the 3D Object Position. This de nes the present position as being the starting point for the animation. Start the animation by de ning the starting object position. 4 Now click and drag the Current Time Marker (CTM) over to 3:00 in the Timeline. 5 Using the 3D Rotate tool ( ), click and drag the 3D object until the text is visible. A keyframe is automatically entered on the Timeline, indicating that there is a change in the position. 6 Using the 3D Roll tool ( ) (located under the 3D Rotate tool), click and drag to tilt the can in a di erent direction. No exact adjustment is necessary. You have already created an animation, but you will now copy your  r st keyframe and paste it later in the Timeline so that the can returns to the same position. 7 Right+click (Windows) or Ctrl+click (Mac OS) on the keyframe at the start of the Timeline , and choose Copy Keyframes from the contextual menu. 8 Click and drag the CTM to 6:00, and from the Animation panel menu, choose Paste K eyframe(s). The keyframe is pasted at the 6:00 point in the Timeline. Testing your animation You will now test your animation, and export it as a QuickTime movie. 1 Click and drag the CTM back to the beginning of the Timeline in the Animation panel. 2 Press the Play button ( ) in the Timeline panel to see your animation in action. When you are  nished viewing, press the Stop button ( ). 3 Choose File > Export > Render Video. Understand that this is a basic introduction to the possibilities of using 3D and video , so you will leave the settings in the Render Video at their defaults. If you are a video professional, you will  nd many of the features that you need to output a quality video in this dialog box. With normal 2D images, you can now create more dynamic images. Try creating a simple 3D postcard, and then painting on the 3D object. 1 Open any 2D image. An extra one is provided if you want to stay within the theme of music, named ps1302.psd. 2 Choose 3D > New 3D Postcard From Layer. 3 Choose the 3D Rotate tool, and click and drag to see that you have turned your 2D image into a 3D postcar d. 4 To experiment further, you can choose a unique brush and change its blending mode. In this example , Flowing Stars was selected from the Brushes panel, and its Master Dimension was changed to over 600 pixels; the blending mode was changed to Vivid Light. Have fun experimenting with painting on 3D objects. Experiment with gradients and all your brush tools, including the Clone Stamp tool ( ). Just make sure that you change blending modes to create realistic painting e ects on your image. The features we cover are broad and include improvements that a ect print, web, 3D, and multimedia designers. The features are summarized in a way that you can quickly take advantage of what’s new. Don’t worry about comprehending all of them at this point, many of these features, as well as other improvements are incorporated in the lessons. 64-bit version Many users have been waiting for this improvement with bated breath, and it is  nally here. If you have the appropriate processor and operating system, you can take advantage of Adobe Photoshop’s CS4 64-bit version. The Photoshop CS4 64-bit version provides a wider data path, so it speeds the processing time when sending large amounts of data to and from RAM (active memory) to the processor. This long-awaited build is the answer to the users who work with 1GB  les or larger and need to take advantage of the improved 64-bit memory allocation. To help Photoshop CS4 users work more e ciently, the developers at Adobe have kindly made a huge attempt to help you  nd what you need, when you need it. With the improvements in the Application bar, and newly improved panels, and helpful Tooltips, you can more easily  nish your project, and spend less time searching the Help menu. Find out how to take advantage of the new and improved workspace in Lesson 2, “Getting to Know the Workspace.” The new and improved workspace includes panels and an Application bar. PSCS4.indb 340PSCS4.indb 340 9/17/2008 2:49:54 PM9/17/2008 2:49:54 PM New panels 341Lesson 14, Adobe Photoshop CS4 New Features 14 New panels Not only has the Photoshop team changed the reference to palettes to be panels (now consistent with the rest of the suite) but they have also added some new panels to help you perform your tasks better. In this section, you will  nd out about two of these panels, several more are referenced throughout this book. Adjustments panel Photoshop CS4 takes non-destructive editing one step further with the addition of the Adjustments panel. The functions that are on the panel are not new, but certainly are easier to  nd. Use the Adjustments panel to change a layer(s) to grayscale, add a tint of color, or correct the color; with no destruction of the original pixels. Adjustments are truly the future of digital imaging, and you can  nd out how to take advantage of them in Lesson 9, “Taking Layers to the Max.” The new Adjustments panel helps you to create non-destructive editing changes.
