Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to read the dialogue for details about the weather forecast. *Teaching aids: Tape + picture B. Content: I. Pre reading: 1. Warm up: (Matching) Have students look at pictures (P.74) and match them with words given giving VN meanings. Get Ss to describe pictures to check their matching: *Key: 1. snowstorm (It is snowing heavily) 2. earthquake (Many houses have been collapsed) 3. volcano (The volcano is erupting) 4. typhoon (The wind is blowing violently, it is raining heavily) Guessing game: WEATHER FORECAST *Clue : + This is a TV or radio program. + This program is very useful and important for everybody, especially for farmers, (and) fishmen and people who are planning to go somewhere. + It tells as about the weather (in the near future) 2.Pre teach vocabulary : (to) turn up : vặn to lên (situation) (to) expect : mong đợi, chờ đón (synonym = wait for) cho rằng/sẽ đón nhận (to) trust : tin tưởng (What is the verb of “trusty”?) (to) experience : trải qua (exp) V of the n “experience (n) thunderstorm : bão có sấm sét và mưa to (visual) (n) delta : Châu thổ (translation) (just) in case : phòng khi, lỡ khi (translation) (n) highlands : vùng núi/vùng cao (example) * Checking: R.O.R 3.Pre questions: - Set the scene : Thuy are talking to her grandmother while they are watching TV. a. What are Thuy and her grandma watching? b. Do they trust the weather forecast? II. While reading: 1. Answer pre-questions : a. They are watching the weather forecast. b. No, they don’t. 2.Gap fill: (2b,p.75) - Have Ss read the dialogue silently, fill in each blank with one word or phrase from the dialogue. - Get Ss share their answers with their partners. - Give feedback. *Key: a. Turn up/ weather forecast b. Raining c. Thunderstorms d. Have temperature e. Weather forecast/watching them 3. Comprehension questions: a. Why does Thuy’s grandma ask her to turn up the volume? b. Which city is the hottest today? c. Where is Thuy going? d. What does Thuy’s grandma want her to do? – Have students work in pairs , answer the questions. – Call on some pairs to answer before class. – Correct. *Key: a. Because she wants to listen to the weather forecast b. Ho Chi Minh city is c. She is going to a park on the other side of the river d. She wants Thuy to bring along a raincoat III.Post reading: 1. Practice the dialogue in groups of three. (open - closed) 2. Language Function : Some phrases about the weather forecast from the dialogue: ……will have temperature between ………… and ………… ……will experience temperature between ………… and………… HCM’s temperature will be between ………… and………… … can expect clouds/thunderstorms It will be raining along the coast of ………. There will be …………… Areas to the North 3. Speaking: Students look at the map (P.75) and play the role of the weatherman to present the weather forecast IV. Homework: 1. Learn by heart vocab, phrases about weather forecast 2. Listen to the weather forecast on TV and write to forecast the weather in HT town the next day. 3. Find out new vocabulary in “Speak”. 4.
