Procedure: Stage Teacher's activities Student's activities Warm up ( 5 minutes) * Brainstorming: - Have Ss think about what they do to prepare for a typhoon. - Get Ss to go to the board and write down. buy food store water T - whole class - Check the doors and the windows. - Cut some branches of high trees in the garden or around the house. - Buy oil, gas. - Buy candles. - Check the roof. They have to check () what preparations they think should be done for a typhoon. - Elicit some questions and ask Ss to ask and answer in pairs. 1. Why do we need to buy food ? 2. What food do we need to buy ? 3.Why do we need to buy candles ? 4. Why do we need to fill all buckets with water? 5.Why do we need to buy a ladder ? 6. Why do we need to check all the window and door latches ? Pairwork Buying some canned food. Buying candles. Buying matches. Filling all buckets with water. Buying a ladder. Fixing the leak in the roof. Typing the roof to the ground with pegs and ropes. Checking all the window and door latches. 1.Because the market will be closed and no food will be available. 2. Rice, oile, canned food, candle, flour, … 3. Because there may be a power cut. 4.Because water pipes may be damaged and we’ll not have enough water to use right after the typhoon. 5. Because the roof may be damaged by the typhoon and we have to fix it. 6. Just in case the strong wind pushes the door open. Post - speaking 3 minutes - Divide the class into the groups of four. - Have sts talk about what they think they want to buy and do to prepare for a typhoon, explain why They can use questions and answers above. Moreover the, ideas in the bubbles on page 77 can help them talk easily. - Go around and help sts. - Encourage sts to give their own ideas. Groupwork A : I think we should buy some canned food because market may be closed and we will have no food to use. B : Yes, I think so. C: We should buy some candles because there may be a power cut during the typhoon. D: That’s a good idea. Let’s do that. Pre- Listening 8 minutes I.
