The need for quantity and quality of human resources, especially professionals in theeconomic field, has played an important role in the improvement of VietNam’seconomy The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the careerchoices of FPT HCM campus students In fact, peer influencers, personal interests, orsimply financial benefits could also consider that as a fundamental element in thedecision of making a major choice, in their interests it might cause a lot of change in jobchoice which also encourages students to develop their own capacity.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction

Choosing a job is one of the important decisions because a career has a great impact onmany aspects of life including personal, social and professional aspects It isinterdependent with economic security, job and life satisfaction (Jusoh et al., 2011).Many people consider career choice to be one of the most important decisions in astudent's life because this choice will make drastic changes in every student's life.

1.2 Theoretical and practical problems

The issue of choosing the work of all students is always concerned and valued byeveryone In the formal training program of FPT University, FPT University spends asemester consisting of 4 months for students to experience working in companies Rightafter the actual internship ended, many students started searching and choosing theirjobs Moreover, many students have found suitable jobs during their internship at thecompany that they previously chose to do the internship Certainly, there are manyfactors that strongly influence a student's decision to choose a career when the OJT termends, we will explore those factors below.

1.3 Research objectives

To achieve the goal of this study, we have raised a number of research questions Theaim is to support the research proposal “ What factors influence the decision to choose ajob for economics students after finishing OJT?”

Trang 6

On the basis of measuring the main factors affecting the job selection decision of FPTuniversity students since the end of the OJT term.

1.3.2 Specific objectives

Systematize theoretical issues related to factors affecting career choice decisions ofstudents at Ho Chi Minh campus after finishing OJT And then measuring the actualsituation of factors affecting the job’s choice decision of students and summarizing themain impact of the student's job’s choice after OJT term ends.

- What factors are the most important in making business decisions for studentsmajoring in economics?

1.5 Research gaps

This survey was conducted to make a decision on job selection after the end of the OJTat FPT University Ho Chi Minh campus The survey subjects are FPT universitystudents who are looking for a job In addition, there are challenges and opportunitieswhen looking for jobs in the economic field in Vietnam in recent times and in the future. From there, there will be useful information to help students majoring in economicsmake a decision to choose a job in accordance with their capacity and interests.

Trang 8

This chapter is discussed in detail, summarizes the research results, and proposes asolution drawn from the research results In addition, there is a comparison betweenthese studies with other previous studies by many different scholars.

Chapter 6: Limitations, Recommendations & Conclusions

This chapter includes a discussion of the limitations of doing this study Therefore, further recommendations will be better studied than the current one Furthermore, thischapter will summarize the main parts of the study.

1.8 Conclusion

Research has shown that in addition to the quality of students such as knowledge, skillsand attitudes, there are other factors that affect the ability to find a job after taking OJT.These factors can include previous work experience, or also external factors such associo-economic situation, labor market situation These factors can affect students' jobopportunities and job choices after the end of the OJT Therefore, surveying these factorscan provide useful and insightful information to help students grasp job searchopportunities.

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 Introduction

This chapter overview will give definitions of dependent variables including personalinterests, financial benefits, and peer influences These are the 3 variables that will beimplemented in the following sections.

2.2 Definitions

This section provides definitions of key concepts with the following 3 sections:

Trang 9

Personal interests refers to regular hobbies or habitual activities that can put the humanmind at ease, happy , joyful and encouraging (Liaw et al., 2017) Individuals choose thework environment that best suits their personality and interests, according to the idea ofa career type (Holland, 1966) Personal interests are formed in the process ofcommunicating with friends, and the educational environment At work, when we have astrong passion, it will make us reach our full potential and achieve success more easily.Pablo-Lerchundi et al (2015) indicated that interests are the main factor influencingstudents' career choice in engineering In addition, Gokuladas (2010) argues thatstudents from urban areas are more likely to prioritize their personal interests over socialgoals when making career decisions According to Atitsogbe et al (2018), personalpreferences have a greater influence on Swiss students.

2.2.2 Financial benefits

Financial benefit refers to the salary and bonus that a person receives for adding value tothe company (Fizer, 2013) The amount that a company pays its employees every monthor year is called salary Employers provide a regular payment to an employee, known asan annual payment Bonuses are another addition to an employee's base salary or hourlycompensation.

Financial compensation, known as financial benefits, has been shown to be the mostinfluential extrinsic factor in career choice decisions (Akosah-Twumasi et al., 2018).Morever, Wust and Simic (2017) indicate that a high income is the most decisive factorfor German students to choose a job.

2.2.3 Peer influences

Peer influences refer to activities such as sharing, advising, counseling, communicating, and learning from peers (Gokuladas, 2010) In addition, the influence of friends can alsobe the feelings that friends bring to the participants For example, an individual decidesto take a job because their friends recommend that they work at this place because itpays well.

As social agents, they influence their type through social comparison and approval(Yamashita et al., 1999; Bojuwoye and Mbanjwa, 2006; Gokuladas, 2010) According to

Trang 10

another definition, Hashim and Embong (2015) suggest that students' peer group is thestrongest source of influence regarding career choice.

2.3 Empirical studies

This empirical analysis attempts to discuss various studies on the factors that influencethe job’s choices of students These studies will be classified into empirical analysis inthe world, empirical analysis in University of trade, University of Industry,

2.3.1 Article: "Study on factors affecting students decision to choose a job aftergraduation of economics students in HCM"

The study aims to evaluate the factors affecting the employment decision of economicsstudents after graduating in Ho Chi Minh City The research team conducted acomprehensive survey of a sample of economics students from different universities inHo Chi Minh City to identify the main factors influencing their job choice Researchshows that a number of factors, including salary, job security, work-life balance, company culture, and career development opportunities, are important considerations forstudents in the job selection process Furthermore, research shows that family influenceis also an important factor influencing students' career choice decisions Family valuesand beliefs play an important role in shaping students' interests and priorities duringtheir job search The study also revealed that some students face challenges in pursuingtheir preferred career due to financial constraints and parental expectations Byaddressing the identified factors and implementing the proposed recommendations, thestudy aims to support the economic growth of Ho Chi Minh City and improve the careerprospects of economics students.

2.3.2 Article 2:Factors affecting the decision to choose a job after graduation ofjunior foreign trade university students 2.

This study aimed to evaluate the factors that influence the job choice decisions of juniorforeign trade university students after graduation The study found that several factors, including salary, job security, work-life balance, company culture, and careerdevelopment opportunities, were significant considerations for the students in their jobselection process Moreover, students' academic performance and their level of interestin the field also affected their job choices The study found that some students faced

a Dependent Variable: JDb Predictors: (Constant), FB, PI, PIFL

H0: R 2 = 0 statistically significant, the regression model is not suitable.H1:R 2 ≠ 0 statistically significant, the regression model is suitable.

The ANOVAtable gives us the results of the F test to evaluate the hypothesis of fit ofthe regression model The F-test sig value is 0.000 < 0.05 (H0 is rejected), so theregression model is suitable It means that β1≠ β2 β3≠ ≠0.

H0: the regression coefficient of the variable is zero statistically significant, the variable has noimpact on the dependent variable.

H1: the regression coefficient of the variable Xi is statistically different from zero, and thevariable X1 has an impact on the dependent variable.

The Coefficient table gives us the Sig value of 3 factors (PIFL, PI, FB) and sig < 0.05 it meansthat 3 factors have an impact on the dependent value So that based on the StandardizedCoefficients beta the regression equation is:

Y = 0.212*PIFL + 0.383*PI + 0.309*FB + e
