Public Services Dept Unveils New Work Order System

By Carolyn Woods PEARSTON (June 27) — At a press conference yesterday, Pearston’s Public Services Department announced that it has digitized its work order system Under the new system, all of the departments’ crews that do on-site work will carry tablet computers that are connected to a geographic information system (GIS) The GIS carries information about the assets each division is responsible for; for example, as Stormwater Division head Enrique Herrera showed attendees, his crews can use it to see a detailed map of all of the city’s drains, pipes, and other structures They can then instantly report and begin the process of addressing problems by selecting the affected facility and filling out an electronic work order form

At the conference, representatives from several of the departments’ divisions praised the advantages and capabilities of the new system Parks supervisor Tracy Kim said it would speed up repair processes, while Tom Andrews of Recycling & Trash Services pointed out that it would also reduce paperwork.

Attention, Public Services Department Employees:

In order to prepare you to use our new work order system, there will be training sessions in Conference Room A on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, June 14–16, from 9 a.m to 12 p.m All employees must attend one of these sessions (the contents of each session are the same, so attending on more than one day is not necessary) If you would prefer a certain session for scheduling reasons, please notify Annette Mueller (ext 103); otherwise, employees will be assigned to sessions at the end of this week.

Review of “Architecture Tour” (Palm Hills Tours)

By Darryl Beck

This tour is a great introduction to Palm Hills architecture It passes all the major sites, and the guide, Oksana, gives interesting explanations of their features and even some fun details about their history (you should hear her story about Merle White’s house!) However, even though our tour finished at 10:30 a.m., the day was quite warm by then, making the cycling pretty tiring at the end You really have to keep the heat in mind in Palm Hills.
