It is also home to the School of Natural and Built Environments. Focused on the science-based prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health problems, the Division of Health Sciences offers a variety of postgraduate programs to further develop knowledge that progresses the delivery of healthcare in the vital areas of nursing, allied health and medical science. The Division hosts the Sansom Institute for Health Research which brings together a diverse knowledge base to address a key set of priorities centred around improving systems and services, boosting early intervention strategies, creating more effective therapies, and addressing the health issues affecting our most disadvantaged citizens. Each year more than 2500 University of South Australia students benefit from scholarships and grants worth millions of dollars. We have a range of categories – including support for high achievers and students in need. High achieving research students are treated generously as well. See page 21 for more details. The University also offers a number of scholarships to make study in Australia more affordable for international students. Australia Awards The Australia Awards are another way to receive a scholarship at the University of South Australia. The awards aim to promote knowledge and education links, and strengthen ties between Australia and our neighbours through undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships. These include development awards to build capacity in developing countries. They also include achievement awards that target top students, researchers and professionals to come to Australia. These scholarships may include a living allowance, tuition fees and return airfares, along with an establishment allowance to help students make the transition to Adelaide. Domestic students: Postgraduate scholarships and grants The University of South Australia provides scholarships to high achieving students as well as those who are most in need. Some are open to all disciplines and others relate to a specific career, program or university division. The university’s website unisa.edu.au/ scholarship/postgraduate/pg_unisa. asp) is the best place to start the search for funds to support your study efforts. There you’ll find university-wide offerings (of up to $10,000) if you’re an Australian Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander postgraduate student, and disability or disadvantage grants of up to $10,000 for applicants who qualify. At division level, the Division of Business offers Student Mobility Scholarships for those who want to travel on exchange. The Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences has a number of travel grants for visual arts students, including the Anne and Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarships Program which covers the costs for up to 10 Australian visual arts students to study overseas. They also offer the Australian Science Media Centre Scholarship to postgraduate students who are commencing the Masters of Arts (Journalism) program. The scholarship will be awarded to students who have a genuine interest in science combined with journalism, communication or multimedia. The Division of Health Sciences has a Master of Dietetics Scholarship worth $5000, 14 Rural Reconnect Scholarships for students from rural or isolated areas, financial support for national and international travel, and support for presenting papers at conferences. The Sansom Pharmacy Fund and the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences will also fund six joint Pharmacy Registrar Clinical Training Scholarships to full-time students enrolled in the Master of Clinical Pharmacy. The Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment has several generous scholarships, including five Information Technology Management Scholarships for students in the Doctor of Information Technology Management program, and financial help for students in the Master of Surveying program. The University offers a range of global exchange and study tour opportunities, which means that once you arrive in Adelaide you could also apply to study in another country as part of your program. International students receive the same consideration as local students, although you cannot undertake this study in your home country. Rent approximately $80 – $250 per week Where to search: The University’s Rental Database is designed to make it easier for enrolled students to find housing. Other places to look for vacancies are real estate agencies and newspaper classifieds.
