GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT 999 000 Let’s countdown PART Introduction Main Content Conclusion INTRODUCTION Henry Fayol, a major contributor to the administrative principles approach, outlined 14 general principles of management, several of which are a part of management philosophy today For example:  Unity of command  Division of work  Unity of direction  Scalar chain Unity of command Each subordinate receives orders from one and only one superior Otherwise, authority, discipline, order, and stability are threatened Division of work Managerial work and technical work are amenable to specialization to produce more and better work with the same amount of effort Unity of direction Similar activities in an organization should be grouped together under one manager There should be one head/superior and also one plan for a group having common objectives It requires for maintaining unity in action to achieve the common goals of the group Scalar chain A chain of authority extends from the top to the bottom of the organization and should include every employee CONCLUSION CONCLUSION CONCLUSION Fayol felt that these principles could be applied in any organizational setting CONCLUSION It was the reality of Fayol's day-to-day managing, seeing what worked and what didn't, that informed his 14 Principles of Management By focusing on administrative over technical skills, the principles are some of the earliest examples of treating management as a profession Thanks For Watching!
