ME-430 Introduction to Computer Aided Design
HAMMER HANDLE - Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0

In a system window, create a new directory called ME-430 (e.g.
h:\PTC_Working_Dir\ME-430) if this has NOT been done.
From File pull down menu, select Set
Working Directory.
Select Working Directory dialog
box appears

Select the ME-430 directory
to highlight it and select OK.
All files created in this
session will be stored in ME-
430 directory.
Note:
You can also create a new
directory by selecting
.
Pick the Create a new object icon
.

Type in hammer_handle for the name
of the new part.
Click OK.
CREATE A BASE FEATURE – REVOLVED PROTRUSION
Create the base feature – Pick the
Revolve Tool icon
.
In the dashboard,
pick
, then
click
.

Pick Front datum plane as Sketch Plane.
For Sketch Orientation Reference pick
RIGHT datum plane, and set Orientation to
Right. This option is default option!
Then click the Sketch button
.
Click the Close button in the
References dialog box.

Click the small forward > icon to expand,
and pick
.
Draw a horizontal centerline through
coordinate system. This centerline is
used as axis of revolution of the revolved
section.
Use the appropriate Sketcher Tools to create and dimension the section as shown
below – make sure the section is closed, and use diametrical dimensions for the
cylindrical portion of the hammer (see figure below).

and select Standard
Orientation.
CREATE CHAMFERS
Pick the Chamfer Tool icon
.
Pick the right edge of the handle.
Change the chamfer option to 45 x D.
Enter the D value of 0.1795 in.

to finish creating a chamfer.
Repeat the same technique to create two more chamfers as shown below.
CREATE A GROOVE
Create the base feature – Pick the
Revolve Tool icon
.
Chamfer 45° x 0.1795
Chamfer 45° x 0.035

In the dashboard,
click the Remove
Material icon
.
Then pick
,
followed by clicking
.
Pick Front datum plane as Sketch Plane.
For Sketch Orientation Reference pick RIGHT
datum plane, and set Orientation to Right. This
option is default option!
Then click the Sketch button
.
Pick the top horizontal and vertical left edges as the
reference.
Click the Close button in the References dialog box.
Pick as additional
reference.
Pick as additional
reference.

The groove will be created using revolved cut. Create the following section, make
sure to create the horizontal centerline first, next draw the vertical center line to
position the center of the circle, and finally draw the small circle that has a RADIUS
equal to 0.035.

CREATE A THREAD 0.5 – 20 UNF-2A
The form of the thread is shown below.
From Insert pull-down menu,
select
Helical Sweep -> Cut
Click Done.
Pick FRONT as the sketching plane, and select Okay.
