Inbusinessyoufailinsomethingsandsucceedinothers.Youareoften
failingandsucceedingat the sametime,
-failing to makeonepartofyourbusinesssuccessfulandsucceedingin
makinganotherpartincreaseandpay.
The failuresaredue to the ideasheld; the successes, to the ideals.If
youidealize the entireprocessofyour
businessyouwillnotonlyavoidfailuresandpartialfailures,butwill
thinkofpossibilitiesneverthoughtof

The Conditions:As the husbandhadbeenillthreemonthsbeforehis

Firstyouridealmustbeanideal,notanidea. The idealwillcometrue.
Sincemostpeoplethinkandplaninideas;
theirthoughtsandplansseldommaterialize:Afterrepeatedfailures,
somebecomediscouraged,despondentor
resignedandsomelosefaithintheircapacity to attain the greatgoal
anddoubt the justiceofsociety, the world
andGod.Othermenandwomenthinkinideals;withthemitisahabit.
Suchmenandwomenaresuccessfuland
attain to agreatextentthatwhichtheydesire.Theyattainin
proportion to theirideals.
Youmayidealizeyourthoughtsof-ethicalandspiritualadvancementand
attainsoulconsciousness;yetwhenit

eyesandvisualize the painting,youholdinyourmindamentalpicture

youcanmake this mentalpictureveryvividandincreaseyourability to
re-seein the mindeverydetailofsucha
painting-lines,formsandcolorsofthingsandpeople.Yet,itisstill
amerepicture;itisflat,lackingaction,and

Idealizing,however,ismoreremarkablebecauseitincludesvisualizing
andaddsallotherelements to it.
Visualizationcomesfromusing the stored-upimagesofbutoneofour
senses, the senseofsight.Idealization
comesfromusing the stored-upimagesnotonlyof the senseofsightbut
ofallothersenses. To attainthatwhich
wedesireitisnecessary,notonly to see the visualimage,but to act.
Trynowanotherprocess:Idealize the paintingyousawin the artmuseum;
bringitvisually to yourmind;re-see
itjustasyoudidby the processpreviouslydescribed.Thenimage
action,-everypersoninitinaction;feelthem
doing the thingtheyarepicturedasdoing;feel the movement;feel the

ifweidealizeaction,ifweuse the
mentalclutchofconnectingup the idealof the thingdesiredwith the

actionmustresult;andactionisoneof the essentialfactorsinmaking
anyidealcometrue.

Ifinourgreaterknowledgeofmatterwefindthatitisonlyenergyin
reality,thatitisnotrestrictedenergybut
infiniteenergy,andthatitisof the samesubstanceasspirit-thenour
conceptofmatterbecomessolikeour
conceptof the substanceofwhichidealsaremade,thatitispossible
forus to perceivesomedefiniteconnection
-arealrelation,perhapsasimilarity,perhapsevenaco-existence-of
the substanceofeveryidealand the
substanceofeverymaterialreality.
Withsuchknowledge-foundinnextsucceedingchapters-ourfaiththat
idealscometrue,becausetheyareof the
samesubstanceasmatter,canbeandisjustified.Suchfaithwillfire
anewouridealsanddesiresandimpelus to
ceasenoeffortuntiltheybecomerealities;andwithknowledgeof the
processofattainment,weshallknowby
experiencethatitisnotsodifficultasitonceseemed.Andyou,
yourself,canmakeyouridealsbecomerealities.

WHATCOMPACTNESSOFMATTERGIVES TO YOURIDEALS

Yourideasarealwayschangingandyouareeverchangingyourattitude
regardingthem.Why?Theyhaveno

notionsandverychangeablenotionsatthat.

down.Oneacross the table,onebesideme.LaterIlearnedthatonewasa
coaloperatorofIndiana,and the other,
-well, the restof the storyconcerns the otherman.
Onelookat this mantoldmehewasnotaso-called“manofideals,”-
thatis,notinaccordwith the ordinaryuse
of the term.Helookedveryprosperous;hewastalkative-menarealways
morecommunicativeafterdinner,
smokingagoodcigar,onatrainwithnothingelse to do. This manis the
soap-dyekingof the world.Onlyafew
yearsagoheandafriend,hiswifeandhisfriend'swife,startedin
businessmakingsoap-dyes.Altogetherthey
had$800.Todayeachofthemismorethanamillionaire.Theirsoap-dyes
sellfortencentsapackage,yetthey
doabusinessofmanyhundredthousanddollarsamonth.Theysecured the
originalpatentandconsequently,in
addition to the profitstheymakefromtheirownconcern,theyarepaid
royaltiesbyallothersoap-dyecompanies.
How didhedoit?Ihavesaidthatheisnotamanofideals.That
statementisbothtrueandnottrue.Heisnota
manofidealsof the Phariseekind,butheisamanwhoidealizes the
thingwithwhichheworks. To him the
soap-dyeisoneof the greatinventionsof the age.Hisfaceglowedashe
toldaboutit;hiseyesshone.
"Thinkwhatitmeans,"hesaid,"foreverywomanin the land-infact,
allover the world,fornowwe'reselling
soap-dyes to Europe,Australia,IndiaandJapan -to beableintwo
minutes to change the colorofhershirtwaist,
ofapieceoflace,oranylighttrimmingmerelybydippingitinour
dye,withoutanyboiling,andwithout
stainingherhands."
From the verybeginninghehadidealized the thingheproduced.Hehad

Inbusinessyoufailinsomethingsandsucceedinothers.Youareoften
failingandsucceedingat the sametime,
-failing to makeonepartofyourbusinesssuccessfulandsucceedingin
makinganotherpartincreaseandpay.
The failuresaredue to the ideasheld; the successes, to the ideals.If
youidealize the entireprocessofyour
businessyouwillnotonlyavoidfailuresandpartialfailures,butwill

The Conditions:As the husbandhadbeenillthreemonthsbeforehis
death,savingshadbeenusedindoctorbills,
