basedpanelsandpaperandpaperboard.Woodrequirementsfortheseproductsvarydependingonthetechnologyemployedandthepotentialtousewoodandbrewaste.Growthinsawnwoodproductionrequiresmoreindustrialroundwood,whereasashifttoreconstitutedpanelproduction(particleboardandbreboard)increasesthepotentialtousewoodresiduesandbrewaste,reducingindustrialroundwoodrequirements.Recyclingpolicieshaveledtoincreaseduseofrecoveredpaperandreducedpulpwooddemand.Increaseduseofwoodresiduesandrecycledmaterialswillreducetheshareofindustrialroundwoodintotalwoodandbreusefromalmost70percentin2005toabout50percentin2030.Thetotalderiveddemandinwoodraw-materialequivalent(WRME)ishigherthantheconsumptionofindustrialroundwood.In2005,globalderiveddemandamountedtoabout2.5billioncubicmetresWRME,ofwhich1.7billioncubicmetreswasindustrialroundwood.Approximately0.5billioncubicmetresWRMEcamefromrecoveredpaperandtheremainderfromwood-processingresidues,recoveredwoodproductsandothersources.Globalproductionofindustrialroundwoodisexpectedtoincreasebyslightlymorethan40percentupto2030(Table24;Figure54).Thisisconsiderablylessthantheprojectedriseintotalwoodandbredemand(whichisexpectedtoalmostdouble)becausethehighestratesofproductiongrowthareexpectedinthepaperandpaperboardsectorandahigherproportionofpaperconsumptionwillberecycledinthefuture.TABLE
