Ifyouidealize and useallthreeofthebasicactivities and onlythose
three,itiseasy to make your idealsbecome
realities.Youalwaysattainwhenyouidealize and usethem;but,ifyou
leaveoutanyoneofthethree,youfail to
attain your desire, -and noonecanbeblamedexceptyourself.
Ifyouidealizeonlythatwhichyoudesire and holdfaithfully to that
ideal,-thatis,ifyouuseonlythefirstofthe
threeactivities,-youwillsucceed and justly in proportion to whatyou
do.
SinceGodisjustice,theresultcorresponds to theeffort.Idealizing
whatyouwant and holdingfaithfully to the
idealformonths and evenyearsbringsyouthesuccess your effortmerits
-evenafteryearsyouwillstillbe
holding to theideal.
And, ifyouidealizethatwhichyoudesire and attempt to takepossession
ofitmentally-usingthefirst and third
ofthethreebasicactivities-yousucceed and justly in proportion to
whatyoudo.
If,when in NewYork,youlearnofafootballgame to beplayed in Boston
and desire to bepresent,theidealof
theThingDesiredis to be in Boston.Ifyoudesire to driveby
automobilefromNewYork to Boston,thatisthe
idealoftheProcessyouintend to use to get to Boston.Ifyougo to
your garage and sit in your carforaday,a
monthorayear,holdingfaithfullyallthetime to theThingDesired and
holdingalsoamentalpictureofbeing in
Boston-mentallypicturingthefirst and thirdsteps,butomittingthe
secondone-beforetheyearpasses your
friendswillwish to sendyou to themadhouse; and onlybecauseyou
failed to usethesecondactivity-thatofthe
processofactuallystartingthemachine and drivingfromNewYork to
Boston.

Visualizingistheactofholdingamentalpicture;idealizingistheact
ofperfectingthementalimageofall
factors,-thepicture,theprocessofsecuringit and theactofmaking
itreal.
Youoftenignitetheheartof your idealbyvividmentalpictures and
strongfeelingsofdesire to possessthe
reality;butunlessconnectedupwith your motorpowerofaction,it
remainsmerelyanurgentunfulfilledpicture
ofdesirewithinyou-anidealthatdoesnotbecomeareality.Clutching
your ideal to actioncannotbeeffectively
accomplishedbyapicture.Letmeillustratethisclearly.
Go to anartmuseum;lookatanypaintingrepresentinganumberof
people.If,aftergoingaway,youclose your
eyes and visualizethepainting,youhold in your mindamentalpicture
ofthepainting.Withcare and practice
youcanmakethismentalpictureveryvivid and increase your ability to
re-see in themindeverydetailofsucha
painting-lines,forms and colorsofthings and people.Yet,itisstill
amerepicture;itisflat,lackingaction, and
itdoesnotimpel to action.ThatwhichIhavejustdescribedisthe
visualizingprocess.Visualizinghasproduced
marvelousresultswhenthepersonvisualizinghasturnedsuchmental
picture-makingintotheidealizedprocess,
eveniftheyhavenotrecognizedthattheyhavedoneso.
Idealizing,however,ismoreremarkablebecauseitincludesvisualizing
and addsallotherelements to it.
Visualizationcomesfromusingthestored-upimagesofbutoneofour
senses,thesenseofsight.Idealization
comesfromusingthestored-upimagesnotonlyofthesenseofsightbut
ofallothersenses. To attainthatwhich
wedesireitisnecessary,notonly to seethevisualimage,but to act.
Trynowanotherprocess:Idealizethepaintingyousaw in theartmuseum;
bringitvisually to your mind;re-see
itjustasyoudidbytheprocesspreviouslydescribed.Thenimage
action,-everyperson in it in action;feelthem
doingthethingtheyarepicturedasdoing;feelthemovement;feelthe
activities.Ifitportraysthemasspeaking,
hearthetones,-hearwhatthey say. Imightcontinuewithallother
elementsofthepicture,butIthinkthisis
sufficient to showyouthedifferencebetweenvisualization and
idealization.Visualizationproducesanonmoving,
non-activepicture in themind,eventhoughitbevivid and clear.Being
non-active,itdoesnotimpel to
action and hencemanyofourpicturedidealsdonotbecomerealities.But
ifweidealizeaction,ifweusethe
mentalclutchofconnectinguptheidealofthethingdesiredwiththe
processofobtainingthatwhichwedesire,
actionmustresult; and actionisoneoftheessentialfactors in making
anyidealcometrue.
... Thislastactivity-theactofmakingtherealityyours-comprisesthree
steps:
idealizing your attitude;
unifyingthesubstanceoftheidealWITHthesubstanceofthereal; and
makingtheactualthingapartof your possessionsorplacingyourself in
theactualconditionsthatyouhave
idealized and desired.
Your attituderelates to yourself, to others, to conditions, and to the
world in general.Beginwithyourself.
Consciouslyornot,youdotakesomekindofanattitudetowardyourself.
Youmaythinkyourselfawormora
god.Youarefree to takeanyattitudetowardyourselfyoudesire to
take;butthereisonlyoneattitudethatleads
to success and itistheidealizedattitude!Incompletethinking in
“ideas”makesyouseeyourselfasachildofsin,
suffering,sorrow,weakness,mistake and failure.Thinkofyourselfas
youare:asonofGod-idealizingtheend
youdesire,theprocessbywhichyouattain, and theattitudeyouhold
towardyourself,others,conditions, and the
universeitself.
Then,idealize your attitudetowardothers,"Thatwhichyeseekyeshall
find."Ifyouthinkthatallmenaretrying
to crushyou,youwillbecrushed;first,because your attitudecloses
your eyes to theopportunitiesofferedyou;
and second,becausesuchanattitudediscovers and draws to youthosewho
donothelpyou.Ifyouidealize
othersaswilling to helpyou,youdraw to youmen and womenwhowilldo
thesquarethingbyyou and helpyou,
-in themyouwillfindhelp and ajustreward.Thisidealizedattitude
doesnotmakeyouatrustingsimpleton,for
theidealizedattitudealsoidealizeswisdom in knowingothers.
Theidealizedattitudechangesalltheconditionsoflife. In business,
itleadsus to expectgoodresults, and,
expectinggoodresults,weplanbetter.Whenweplanbetter,-thatis,
in, amoreidealizedway-wegetbetter
results.Idealizetheworld in general.Theuniversemustbegood.Ifit
werenotgooditwouldgo to piecesover
night,-forevildisrupts and destroys.Goodattracts and unites and
holdstogether.
Youcannotidealize your business, your profession and your workwithout
conductingthewholeaffairasan
idealizedservicethatinevitablywillforce your ideals to cometrue!
