The Soneplex System
from ADC. The T1/E1
Service Delivery Experts
The Soneplex E1 Loop Extender Exchange platform
provides centralized network management and point to
multi-point transport for up to 20 E1 and 40 Nx64 kbps
circuits over the local loop. Suitable for indoor or
outside plant deployment, it provides maximum
operational flexibility while minimizing network
elements and installation time.
ADC's Soneplex E1 system is the lowest total cost solution
for carriers to grow their E1-based business services. The
Soneplex system lowers the cost of E1-based services over
copper or fiber using HDSL or optical E2 technology, in a
single platform. From operations, maintenance and
provisioning, to central office space and cabling, the
Soneplex system is designed to take costs out of today's
E1 delivery approach, adding profit to your bottom line.
Features
• High-density front access ETSI-compliant chassis supports up to
20 E1 G.703/G.704 circuits over optical fiber local loops
• High-density rear access ANSI-compliant chassis supports up to
20 E1 G.703/G.704 circuits over optical fiber local loops
• Front and Rear Access chassis support of up to 40 Nx64 kbps E1
HDSL circuits, each over one copper pair
• Centralized SNMP-based network management for circuit
provisioning, real-time performance monitoring and alarm collection
• Dual power feed system ensures maximum circuit availability

E1 Loop Extender Exchange Platform
Description
System
Components
Front Access Loop
Extender Chassis
The Soneplex E1 Loop Extender Exchange Platform consists of the Exchange chassis,
common control, and software portions of the Soneplex E1 Loop Extender System. This
system delivers optical and copper transport of voice, data, and video services. The
platform features centralized SNMP-based network management, providing end-to-end
visibility of all circuits. The management system is interfaced from a local menu-driven
craft access port, remote dial-up modem, Telnet or a portable graphical user interface
(GUI) element manager. Local and remote provisioning lowers installation cost by
enabling one technician to turn-up individual circuits. Real-time non-service affecting
performance monitoring ensures high quality service deployment by alerting operators
to intermittent and marginal service events before adverse impact. System
sectionalization isolates the circuit fault so field technicians are dispatched to the right
location the first time. The dual power feed system eliminates service impact during
power failures at the equipment deployment facility.
Designed to meet ETSI standards, the Soneplex E1 Front Access Loop Extender chassis
provides 22 modular slots. Twenty slots are used for service delivery modules and two
slots are used for common control. Any combination of HDSL and E1 quad optical fiber
modules provide transport for up to 20 E1 circuits from one chassis. The Shelf Controller
Unit (SCU) and optional E1 Alarm Processor Unit (EAPU) are used in the common
control slots. Three front access chassis versions are available for flexible E1 network
interface: 120 ohm balanced with wire-wrap connectors, 120 ohm balanced with DB9
connectors, or 75 ohm unbalanced with BNC connectors.

Rear Access Loop
Extender Chassis
The Soneplex E1 Rear Access Loop Extender chassis provides 22 modular slots and is
designed to meet standard installations using little vertical rack space and where access to
the back of the chassis is available. Twenty slots are used for service delivery modules and
two slots are used for common control. Any combination of HDSL and E1 quad optical
fiber modules provide transport for up to 20 E1 circuits from one chassis. The Shelf
Controller Unit (SCU) and optional E1 Alarm Processor Unit (EAPU) are used in the
common control slots. The rear access chassis is designed with balanced 120 ohm wire-
wrap connectors for E1 network interface.
E1 Alarm
Processor Unit
The optional E1 Alarm Processor Unit (EAPU) provides system alarm reporting, along
with support for up to eight housekeeping alarm inputs. Critical, major, and minor
alarms are reported via front-panel LEDs. The alarm cutoff option is accessed from a
front faceplate switch or management port.

E1 Loop Extender Exchange Platform
The Soneplex Shelf Controller Unit (SCU) provides centralized element manage-
ment to the Soneplex system for configuration, operation and maintenance.
Access is available through any of four access ports, including front panel craft,
two serial and one Ethernet.
SNMP, point-to-point protocol (PPP) and ASCII management commands and
responses are all available on the SCU. The front panel craft provides easy access
for local technical support during installation and test using ASCII commands.
Network operations control (NOC) access is provided through an IEEE 802.3
Ethernet port and two serial ports. The SCU Ethernet port allows SNMP LAN
connectivity to the NOC. The two serial ports support ASCII and PPP. The serial
ports allow modem connectivity for remote access between NOC and Soneplex.
PPP enables Telnet access to the craft screens. Up to eight simultaneous Telnet
sessions can be established through the PPP serial port and Ethernet port.
