The optical DS2 is converted back to four DS1s at the customer premises. It supports op- tional 1+1 protection and provides extensive alarms and diagnostic capabilities. The QLX utilizes two fibers, with either an FC or SC type connector, and can operate in protected or non-protected modes. Non-protected mode requires one QLX module per four DS1s installed in the Soneplex Loop Extender shelf at the central office, and one QLX at the remote end. Protected mode requires two QLX modules at each end of the circuit and is selectable by software for either line or path protection. The QLX is ideal for low density T1-based fiber applications, such as cellular and PCS transport and tenant services within business parks or malls.
