The optical E2 is converted back to four E1s at the customer premises. It supports optional 1+1 protection and provides extensive alarms and diagnostic capabilities. The EQLX utilizes two fibres, with either an FC or SC type connector, and can operate in protected or non-protected modes. Non-protected mode requires one EQLX module per four E1s installed in the Soneplex Loop Extender shelf at the central office, and one EQLX at the remote end. Protected mode requires two EQLX modules at each end of the circuit and is selectable by software for either line or path protection.
