Lesson plan 12 School year : 2012-2013 Unit 10 : ENDANGERED SPECIES PART B – SPEAKING Time allowance: 45 mins Implement by: Group 15 I. Aims and objectives of the lesson By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to : + Get information about some animals such as pandas, rhinoceros, tigers and elephants. + Talk about these animals. + Improve Ss’ speaking skill. II. Time allowance : 45 minutes III. Student ‘s level : grade at 12 IV. Method : intergrated skills, communicative approach V. Teaching aids - Board, chalks, posters, textbook. VI. Procedure Time Teacher’s activity Students’ activity Technique 5 mins 1. Warm-up Game: guessing picture - Divide the class into 2 groups. - Show 5 pictures about animals. -Look at the pictures. - Visual - Ask Ss to look at these pictures of some animals and guess the names of them. - Call 2 Ss of 2 groups to go to the board and write their answers. Which group finishes it firstly and has more correct answers will be the winer. - Give feedback: Pic.1. panda Pic.2. tiger Pic.3. rhinoceros Pic.4. monkey Pic.5. dolphin - Work in Groups. - Go to the board and write their answers. 15 mins 8mins 2. Before you speak Activity 1 : Task 1: Work in pairs. Ask and answer the following questions: - Ask Ss to work in pairs to discuss the following questions: 1. What do you call Gấu Trúc, Tê Giác, Hổ, Voi in English? 2. In which sort of habitats can you find each of these animals? 3. Which of these animals can be kept as a pet or used for food or medicine? 4. Which of them is/are endangered? - Call some pairs to present theirs answers, and can correct them if they have mistakes. - Give feedback: 1. I call them panda, rhinoceros, tiger and elephant. -Work in pairs. Present their answers. 7mins 2. + Pandas live in bamboo forests in moutains in central and western China. + Rhinoceros live in tropical forests in Africa and Southern India. + Tigers live in Siberia, Southest Asia and Southern India. + Elephants live in Forests In India, China, Southeast Asia… 3. + Panda can be kept as a pet. + Tiger, elephant and rhinoceros can be used for medicine. 4. Look at the information about the giant panda, tiger, rhino and elephant, which are endangered animals. Ask and answer questions about them. - Give model answer: A: Where do giant panda live? B: In bamboo forests in the moutains in central and western China. A: What is the population of pandas in the world? B: Only about 600. - Read aloud this dialogue. - Ask Ss to read again. - Call some pairs to practice. - Give the model questions introduced in activity 1 1. Where do/does….live? 2. What is the population of…? 3. How tall is/are…? 4. How heavy is/are…? 5. What do/does… eat? 6. How long do/does … live? 7.Why does the number of …decline? - Ask Ss to work in pairs and beside the information of the animals and model questions above to practice the dialogue. - Call some pairs to practice their dialogues. - Correct Ss’ mistakes if they have after they finish. 4. After you speak. Task 3: Work in groups. Take turn to give an oral report on the animals mentioned in Task 2. - Ask Ss to work in groups and to take to give an oral report on the animals mentioned in Task 2. - Give the model report about Pandas. Pandas live in bamboo forests in the mountains in central and western China. Their population is about 600. Their height is 1 to 5 metres. Their weight is 75 to 160 kg. they usually eat bamboo. Their life span is about 20 to 30 years. Pandas are Look at the model answer. - Listen to the T. - Read aloud. -Work in pairs. -Practice their dialogues 9mins 1mins endangered due to habitat destruction and illegal trading. - Call some Ss to present their reports and check them if they have mistakes. 5.Homework. Ask Ss to : - Learn vocabulary by heart and review the lesson which they have just learnt. - Prepare the listening part. - Work in groups. - Present their reports. - Listen to the T and study at home.
