ĐỀ TÀI: Speaking Part 1: Thày Oliver cô Lê Ngân Topic 1: Garbage Why some people throw garbage on the street? I struggle to get my head around this one, it makes me livid I believe this trait to be attributed to: pure laziness, ignorance and a self-absorbed manner which makes these people believe that it is their prerogative to act exactly as they please, and let other people their dirty work with absolutely no compensation   Why some people throw garbage on the street? I struggle to get my head around this one, Livid: extremely angry Trait:a particular quality in your personality it makes me livid I believe this trait to be attributed to: pure laziness, ignorance and a self-absorbed manner: only concerned about or interested in yourself a self-absorbed manner which makes Prerogative: a right or advantage belonging to a particular person these people believe that it is their prerogative to act exactly as they please, Compensation: something, that somebody gives you because they have hurt you,  and let other people their dirty work with absolutely no compensation     How you feel when you see people throw garbage on the street? Do you stop them? It is exasperating It really gets on my wick because it requires such a miniscule amount of effort to make a small diversion towards a bin In this city there is always a place for rubbish within eyesight, yet some people are still too self-centred and idle to even make the slightest effort The reason it frustrates me to such an extent, is the damage it is doing to our local environment, and the planet’s ecosystems It is exasperating It really gets on my wick because it requires such a Exasperating: extremely annoying miniscule amount of effort to make a small diversion towards a bin In this city there is always a place for rubbish within eyesight, yet some people are still too self-centred and idle to even make the slightest effort The reason it gets on my wick : to annoy somebody minuscule : extremely small frustrates me to such an extent, is the damage it is doing to our local Idle: lazy environment, and the planet’s ecosystems frustrates : annoy sbd Extent: Ecosystems: How you feel when you see people throw garbage on the street? Even organisms which live at the depths of the ocean, thousands of miles from the closest human settlement have been found to have plastic molecules in their digestive tract, the cause of which can be directly linked to human activity It is extraordinarily unjust that such lifeforms should have to suffer from our negligence 3 What you with garbage when you see it on the street? Do you pick up the garbage? No, I am ashamed to say that I very rarely pick up garbage from the street I think the act of doing so is highly commendable, and I have the utmost respect for every individual who goes out of their way to make our local environment a cleaner place For me it is a matter of hygiene, if there was a handwash station on every street corner then maybe I would! But unfortunately, that is not a realistic expectation No, I am ashamed to say that I very rarely pick up garbage from the Commendable: deserving praise and approval street I think the act of doing so is highly commendable, and I have Utmost: greatest; most extreme the utmost respect for every individual who goes out of their way to make our local environment a cleaner place For me it is a matter of hygiene, if there was a handwash station on every street corner then maybe I would! But unfortunately, that is not a realistic expectation matter of hygiene, Do you recycle paper and plastic? Yes, I I like the way that recycling waste gives me a feeling of contentment at the fact that I am doing my bit to protect the environment as best possible I also recycle metal, glass and anything else which can be reused Including sending less-fashionable clothes and obsolete small-appliances to charity where they can have a second life, being appreciated by people less fortunate than myself Yes, I I like the way that recycling waste contentment a feeling of happiness or satisfaction gives me a feeling of contentment at the fact as best possible: that I am doing my bit to protect the environment as best possible I also recycle metal, glass and anything else which can be reused Including sending less-fashionable clothes and obsolete small-appliances to charity where they can have a second life, being appreciated by people less fortunate than myself Obsolete: no longer used because something new has been invented Fortunate: What you to protect your city’s environment? Have you participated in any activities related to environmental protection? In terms of scenery, definitely Barbados, it was an absolute utopia, an enchantingly picturesque tropical paradise with stunning natural beauty around every corner I was highly fortuitous to be able to experience scuba diving there! Absolutely, one of my major qualms in life is the feeling that I am squandering the little time I have on this planet, cooped-up in the same office, village or town When the world has so many other magnificent destinations for me to explore To be able to travel for work, rather than having my travel time constrained to a fortnight of holiday per annum, would be an absolute dream Qualms: a feeling of doubt or worry about whether what you are doing is right Absolutely, one of my major qualms in life is squandering : to waste money, time, etc in a stupid or careless way the feeling that I am squandering the little coop-up : to keep a person or an animal inside a building or in a small space time I have on this planet, cooped-up in the Magnificent: extremely attractive and impressive; deserving praise same office, village or town When the world constrained : not natural; forced or too controlled has so many other magnificent destinations fortnight; weeks for me to explore To be able to travel for Per annum: each year work, rather than having my travel time constrained to a fortnight of holiday per annum, would be an absolute dream 5 What kind of cities you like to travel to? My personal preference is to travel to either the most modern, or the most beautiful cities There is something alluring about the neon-lit skyscrapers of a modern metropolis like Tokyo But equally, there is a more subtle, but equally exquisite beauty to be found in the aesthetics of ancient architecture in places like Venice and Rome My personal preference is to travel to either the Alluring: attractive and exciting in a mysterious most modern, or the most beautiful cities There way is something alluring about the neon-lit skyscrapers of a modern metropolis like Tokyo But equally, there is a more subtle, but equally exquisite beauty to be found in the aesthetics of ancient architecture in places like Venice and Rome Metropolis: a large important city  Exquisite: extremely beautiful or carefully made Aesthetic: Ancient architecture ...Topic 1: Garbage Why some people throw garbage on the street?
