Disconnect the muffler from rear catalytic converter2. Remove the muffler from hangers.28-4 MUFFLERRear Catalytic Converter1. Disconnect the muffler from rear catalytic converter.2. Remove the O-ring from hanger bracket, holding up the frontmuffler assy.3. Remove the rear catalytic converter from front muffler assy.Front Muffler Assy1. Remove the engine under cover.2. Remove the O-ring from hanger bracket.3.Remove the front muffler assy-to-rear catalytic converter boltsand hanger bracket.4. Loosen the exhaust pipe clamp bolts and remove the exhaustpipe clamp-to-exhaust pipe mounting bracket bolts.5. Remove the front muffler assy-to-exhaust manifold nuts.NOTEWhen loosening the nuts, apply a small amount of oil to thethreaded portion of bolts for easy removal.6. Remove the front muffler assy from hanger.28-5 MUFFLERINSPECTION1.Gas leaks at each connection. If gas leaks are evident, locate thecause. Retighten if necessary.2. Corroded or damaged muffler and pipes.3. Damaged rear catalytic converter.4.Damaged gasket (front muffler assy-to-rear catalytic converter).5.
