Mạo từ bất định:(A,An) - Là 1 từ loại đi cùng 1 danh từ số ít khi người ta lần đầu nói tới danh từ đó. - Có 2 hình thái: + “A” : đứng trước một danh từ bắt đầu bằng một phụ âm hoặc 1 nguyên âm nhưng được phát âm như phụ âm. Eg: a uniform, a european, a university, a house. + “An”: đứng trước một danh từ bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm (a, e, i, o và u) và âm “h” câm. Eg: an apple, an hour, an egg, an SOS. II. Mạo từ xác định:(The) - Đi với cả danh từ số ít và danh từ số nhiều sau khi người ta đã nhắc tới danh từ đó hoặc khi danh từ đó được xác định bởi văn cảnh hoặc thể hiện một người hay vật duy nhất. - “The” có 2 cách phát âm khác nhau: + / ðә / : Khi danh từ bắt đầu bằng 1 phụ âm. + / ðі: / : Khi danh từ bắt đầu bằng 1 nguyên âm. III. Danh từ số ít: Là danh từ chỉ một người hoặc một vật. 2. Danh từ số nhiều: Là danh từ chỉ từ hai người hoặc hai vật trở lên. II.Cách thành lập danh từ số nhiều: 1. Hầu hết các danh từ số nhiều được thành lập bằng cách thêm “s” vào sau DT số ít. Eg: A desk → Desks 2. Các danh từ tận cùng là “s, ch, sh, x, z” được tạo thành số nhiều bằng cách thêm “es”. Eg: A bus → Buses 3. Các danh từ tận cùng là “y”: - Thêm « s » nếu trước « y » là một nguyên âm. Eg : A day → Days - Đổi “y” thành “i” rồi thêm “es” nếu trước “y” là một phụ âm. Eg: A baby → Babies - Các danh từ riêng tận cùng là “y” chỉ cần thêm “s”. Eg: Februarys 4. Một số danh từ tận cùng bằng “f” hoặc “fe” (calf, half, knife, leaf, life, loaf, self, chef, thief, wife) được tạo thành số nhiều bằng cách đổi “f” hoặc “fe” thành “ves”. Các danh từ khác biến đổi bình thường. Eg: A calf → Calves 5. Một số danh từ tận cùng bằng “o” : - Thêm “s” nếu trước “o” là một nguyên âm. Eg: A radio → Radios - Thêm “es” nếu trước “o” là một phụ âm. Eg: A tomato → Tomatoes 6. Một số danh từ biến đổi bất quy tắc. A man → Men A woman → Women A tooth → Teeth A foot → Feet A child → Children A mouse → Mice A person → People 7. Một số danh từ không biến đổi : Sheep, deer, fish, swine, grouse, aircraft… 8. Một số danh từ chỉ có hình thức số nhiều. Trousers, jeans, clothes, glasses, stairs… III.Cách phát âm đuôi “s” và “es” - / s / : Khi danh từ có tận cùng là “k, t, p, f” hoặc âm / θ / - / z / : Khi danh từ có tận cùng là các nguyên âm và phụ âm “n, d, v, y, m, l, r, g, b” - / iz /: Khi danh từ có tận cùng là “ s, x, ch, sh, z, ce, ge, se, ze” * Exercise: Điền mạo từ thích hợp trước các danh từ và chuyển chúng sang dạng số nhiều.
