Level: Elementary Date: 2012/05/25 Length of Lesson: 40 minutes Lesson Subject: Introductions Lesson Type: Learn how to introduce people and at same time learn more about the new English teacher and each other Materials Needed: • • Animated picture of tree with branches depicting family members and self PowerPoint presentation with photos of family/ pets/ home town/ university/ hobbies etc (All prepared prior to class) Lesson Objectives: • • To help students to introductions in English with confidence Ss and their new English Teacher to get to know each other better ENGAGE – Time required: 10 minutes Purpose: To tell students about myself and answer any questions they may have Activity: Using PPP, inform students where I’m from, about my family, my favorite music, food, and sport, and my hobbies Allow Ss to ask questions but limit to the minimum due to time constraints 2.Activate – Time required:13 minutes Purpose: To enable students to practice what they’ve learnt from the lesson thus far and to increase student motivation by introducing some competition between the groups Activity: Divide students into 4-6 teams and Ss getting an opportunity to introduce them self and a fellow student to the rest of the group STUDY – Time required: 12 minutes Purpose: Firstly, to assess Ss’s ability to put into practice what they have learnt during the lesson, in front of the class Secondly for the teacher and Ss to get to know each other better and to increase student motivation by introducing some competition between the groups Activity: Each group nominates one or more students (depending on group size and time available) to stand up introduce themself and a partner to the class, including name, hobbies, favorite subject, etc Teacher to evaluate presentations and award points to determine overall winner 4 SUMMARIZE – Time required: minutes Purpose: To revise and lay a sound foundation for future classes Activity: Recap the basics of an introduction and provide brief insight into the next lesson
