Unit 4: Many, much, a few / few, a little / little, some any Prepared by Nguyen Trung Kien Much dùng cho danh từ ko đếm Many dùng cho danh từ đếm Much many thường sử dụng câu phủ định nghi vấn VD: We didn't have much luck today Have you got much more work to do? There aren't many hotels in this town Do you know many people around here? Many sử dụng câu khẳng định, ko phổ biến VD: There are many ways to approach this (or lots of ways) Many people are living below the poverty line (or lots of people) Much sử dụng câu khẳng định trước too, so, as Ex: There is so much work to be done I think that he has got too much responsibility Drink as much water as possible during the race Chúng ta nói: •There are many cows in the pictures Nhưng •There is much milk in the glass Little & few - Few (a few) dùng cho danh từ đếm - Little (a little) dùng cho danh từ ko đếm VD: I speak a few words of Spanish There is little food in the fridge It is nearly empty A few a little thường mang nghĩa khẳng định VD: I've got a few friends (= maybe not many, but enough) I've got a little money (= I've got enough to live on) Few little thường mang nghĩa phủ định VD: Few people visited him in hospital (= he had almost no visitors) He had little money (= almost no money) Cách dùng some any: - Some any dùng để số lượng không xác định được, dùng hay không cần phải nêu rõ xác số * Some: vài, vài, số, số + Some dùng mệnh đề khẳng định Ví dụ: I gave him some money We bought some food + Any dùng mệnh đề phủ định câu nghi vấn Ví dụ: She didn't have any money Have you got any books? Some câu hỏi: - Khi ta hỏi mong câu trả lời yes dùng some (các câu thỉnh cầu (requests), đề nghị (offers) ) Ví dụ: Have you brought some paper and a pen? - Bạn có mang giấy bút không? (người nói mong người nghe mang chúng theo) Would you like some more meat? - Bạn muốn dùng thêm thịt không? Any câu khẳng định: - Ta dùng any câu khẳng định sau từ có nghĩa phủ định hay giới hạn Ví dụ như: never, hardly, without, little Ví dụ: You never give me any help - Bạn không giúp There’s hardly any tea left - Khó trà We got there without any trouble - Chúng đến không gặp trở ngại There is little point in doing any more work now - Chẳng có lý lại làm thêm việc lúc I forgot to get any bread - Tôi quên mua bánh mỳ 2 Some dc xem hình thức số nhiều a, an Some đứng trc danh từ số nhiều đếm VD: There are some books on the table Có vài sách bàn Any Any đứng trước danh tù số nhiều đếm - Khi đạt câu hỏi với "any", người nói ngụ ý nghi ngờ, ko biết điều hỏi có hay ko có EX: Are there any oranges? Có cam ko? No, there aren't any oranges Ko, ko có cam Hôm học cấu trúc There + Be, liên quan đến chữ here/ there nơi chốn đâu nhé, There+ Be có nghĩa "đó là" đâu There is/ There are có nghĩa có, ý sở hữu, nghĩa không thuộc ai, có nghĩa có diện Nếu có dùng mẫu câu số ít: - Khẳng định: (positive): There is a/ an + N - Phủ định (negative): There is + NƠT + a/ an + N - Câu hỏi Yes-No (question): Is + there + a/ an + N+ ? VD: There's a supermarket There isn' t a car park Is there a cinema? - Yes, there is / No, there isn' t Nếu số nhiều ( từ trở lên), dùng mẫu câu số nhiều: - Khẳng định: (posítive): There are + some + N-S.- Phủ định (negative): There are + NOT + any + N-S - Câu hỏi Yes-No (question): Are + there + any + N-S + ? VD: There are some apples on the table There aren' t any oranges Are there any pears? Yes, there are / No, there aren' t Bài tập Trả lời câu sau với a few, a little: Do you have some money?
