As you can see from this notepaper, I am still in Madrid. 3. I arrived on Monday 4 th and I expected to return to London on Thursday 7 th July. 4. Things have not gone according to plan and I have to stay several more days. 5. I met Mr Martinez on Tuesday 5 th July and visited his factory in order to inspect his new products. 6. However we have not reached an agreement on the prices. 7. The contract has not been signed yet and so I must stay until it is. 8. Despite all these difficulties I have enjoyed visiting the Prado museum and eating in some excellent restaurants here. 9. I’ll phone you when I am back in London. Exercise 2: 1. I stayed in your hotel from 24 April to 30 April in room 415. 2. On arriving home, I realised I had left a book in my room. 3. I wonder if it has been found and handed in. 4. It is a small, hardback book with a blue cover called ‘Gallions Reach’ by H. M. Tomlinson. 5. I am very anxious to get the book back because it is now out of print and it is difficult to find in bookshops. 6. Also the book was given to me by the author whose signature is on the front cover. 7. I enclose a cheque for £1.50 to cover the cost of posting it back to me. 8. If, unfortunately, you do not find the book, please return me the cheque. Exercise 3: 1. Thank you so much for inviting me to speak to your students about careers in the air industry. 2. I would be delighted to come and answer all the questions your students have. 3. Generally I find that it is best to start by showing a video film followed by a discussior. 4. Before I started it I spent a year in France living with a French family. 6. While I was there I leant to speak French fluently. 7. We flew from London to Belfast and visited lots of interesting places. 5. We spend most of our time fishing and walking in the mountains. 6. Now I am ready to go back to work on Monday. 7.
