English Period 13: Unit 5: Are they your friends? - Lesson 1 I. Objectives 1. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, pupils can use the words and phrases to the topic Are they your friends? and introduce your friend, using This is my friend + (name). 2. Skills: - Develop all skills 3. Language focus: a. Sentences patterns : This is my friend + name. b. Vocabulary: proper name, friend II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, tape, CD. 2. Student’s: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Activities for teaching and learning 1. Settlements: (2’) Sing a song: “How are you? 2. Oral test:(3’) Teacher asks students do exercise in workbook. 3. New lesson Teacher's activities Students' activities 1. Warm up.(2ms) - Greetings. - Ask Ss use structure “This is + (name) and Who’s that? It’s + (name) ….” - Have Ss play a game Slap the board + Teacher will point to the pictures on book and ask “Who’s that?” 2. Presentation. Look, listen and repeat. - Let ss look at the picture part 1a on page 30 to describe it. *Set the scene: + What can you see in the picture? + Who are they? + Where are they? - Greeting - Answer - Half of the class to answer with It’s + (name) - The rest of the class say Hello + name. - Write vocabulary in their notebooks. - Listen to the teacher. - Look at the picture to describe. - Listen - Answer + What are they doing? * Presenting Sentence patterns - T gives a situation to present. - T elicits the structures by asking Ss to speak out the model sentence: Linda: Mai, this is my friend Mary. Mai: Hello, Mary. Nice to meet you. This is my friend + (name) - Asks ss to look at the book and listen to the tape two times. - Asks ss to listen and repeat after the tape. - Asks some ss to practice the dialouge. - Listens and corrects mistakes. Part 2: Point and say - Have pupils look at Pictures ab,c,d. Ask them to identify the characters in the pictures. - Have pupils repeat the phrases a few times. T models the dialogue (use a picture) Linda: Mai, this is my friend________. Tony: Hi, Mai Mai: Hello, ________. Nice to meet you. - Tell Ss that they are going to practise saying and responding to This is my friend + (name). - Ask Ss point to each character in the picture and elicit his/her name and the words to fill the gaps. - Write the whole sentences on the board. - Have Ss repeat the sentences a few tim - Call some students to stand up and read aloud. - Have some Ss work in pairs and groups and practice. Play the role in pic a, b, c and d then point and say. - Check some pairs, group at class. Part 3: Let’s talk. - Look at the picture and introduce. What are they talking? - Ask Look at the conversation and fill the gaps in the bubbles. - In pairs students introduce their name the same in the book. - Ask Ss to describe the situation - Have some Ss make a dialogue with their true names. - Do as example if the Ss don’t understand. - Ask Ss look the pic and then work in pairs with - Look at the book and listen the tape. - Listen and repeat after the tape. - Practice the dialouge - Listen - Look at the pic and identify the characters. - Repeat the phrases a few times - Write the model sentences in their notebooks Teacher-whole class. Key: 1b 2a Part 5: Read and write. *Pre-reading: T introduces the topic “you are going to read the words in the box in order to get the information to write the missing words in two dialogues. *While-reading: 1 st reading: Ss read the sentences individually and check their prediction. 2 nd reading: Ss do the task (elicit the words to fill the gaps) - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary - Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction - Call on some Ss to report their answers. Part 4: Listen and number - Have Ss look at Pictures a, b, c, d on Page 33 Identify the characters and guess what they are saying. * Set the scence: “you are going to listen to the recording and numbering the correct boxes” 1 st :Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen while they are looking the pictures in their books 2 nd : play the recording for Ss to listen and number the correct pictures. 3 rd : play the recording for Ss to check their answers. - Write model sentence on notebook. - Look at the picture to describe. - Listen - Repeat the phrases. - Write the model sentences in their notebooks.
