Procedure: T Stages & Content T’s activities Ss’ activities 5 I. WARM-UP: Game: Chatting - Who are they? What do they do? - What do they have in common? Expected Answers: - Show some pictures of Ly Duc and Van Mach then ask some questions about them. - Answer 1 5 - They are Ly Duc and Van Mach. - They are athletes. - They have won gold and silver medals in bodybuilding in the Asian Games. - Who else has won gold medals in Asian Games? - Which sports do you think are the strongest of Vietnam? II. PRE-READING: Deal with 3 questions in the textbook. Pre-Teaching Vocabulary - effort (n) /’ef∂t/ = attempt = struggle. - aquatic (adj) /’ ∂kwætik/ E.g: aquatic sport (sport connected with water) - appreciate (v)to understand the value of st/sb: đánh gía cao - Ask Ss to work in groups to discuss the questions in the textbook. - work in groups to discuss the questions 2 - advance(v): to make progress - facility (n): equipment that is provided for a particular purpose: trang thiết bị - enthusiasm (n) /in’Φjuziæzm/ nhiệt tình She is interested in teaching. WHILE-READING: Grid / Table completion Key: Year Events (1) 1951 (2) The 2 nd Asian Games in Manila (3) 1958 - Let Ss read the passage and complete the table in task 2 (p 138). - In pairs, have Ss fill in the table with the year and the events. Compare the answer with other pairs. - -Read the text silently and complete the table in task 2 (p 138 3 (4) Squash, rugby, fencing, and mountain biking (5) 2002 1 IV. POST-READING: - Ask Ss to close their books. - Divide the class into two groups. - Draw a table with 12 numbers on the board (see Appendix) - Tell Ss some of them are lucky numbers. If Ss call out one of them, they will get 2 marks and they have the right to choose another number. One mark will be for each question. The group that can score more points will win the game. Work in groups and answer V. HOMEWORK: Prepare the next part. Search the internet to find some more information about the Asian Games.
