Description of the class: - Number of the learners: - Characteristics: All sts are all teenagers - Gender: Male: Female: II. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to write about their hobbies, work in pairs/ groups effectively and do the tasks set by teacher correctly. III. Assumption: Students have known how to write a paragraph about their hobbies or different topics such as films, entertainment, recreation, etc… IV. Anticipated problems and Solutions: - Problems: Students may not know the names of all kinds of hobbies and the new words related to the context. - Solutions: Give students some new words. V. Teaching Aids: - Textbook ( English 11) - Blackboard, colored chalks. - Handouts. VI. Teaching Procedure: The pre-writing stage, the while-writing stage and the post-writing stage. Checking Attendance & Revision: - Teacher checks students’ attendance - Teacher gets students review the previous lesson by asking them some questions. The questions are relevant to their reading: HOBBIES. 2. The Pre-writing Stage: Game: Hangman game Teacher tells the whole class that teacher has a 5 letters word in her mind. ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ Clues: - It is a noun. - It is a way to free time. - Collecting stamps, reading books, going fishing are examples of this noun. Answer key: HOBBY • Pre-teach vocabulary - to be crazy about (exp) ~ very interested in Ex: Hong Nhung is my favorite singer. I am crazy about her. - provide (sb) with (sth) (context): cung cấp cho ai cái gì đó Ex: Forests provide us with wood - Keep (sb) occupied (v)= keep (sb) busy: làm (ai đó) bận rộn Ex: Looking after the children keeps me occupied. - Enable (sb) to do (sth): có thể giúp - Teacher asks monitor “Who’s absent today?” - Teacher asks students some questions about the reading. -Teacher will give some clues about the word. Teacher will write it down in the correct position, if students give the wrong answers. -Teacher will draw the head (the arms, the body, and the legs). Giving definition and meaning. The While-writing Stage: Activity 1: Brain- storming When you have free time, you want to relax. 1/ What is your hobby? 2/ When did you start it? 3/ How do you enjoy it? 4/ How much time do you spend on it? 5/ Why do you enjoy it? 6/ How long do you think you will continue with your hobby? Suggestion answer: 1/ My hobby is (reading books, playing games,…) 2/ I started it when (I was a child, I was ten,…) 3/ (Firstly, I read simple books, then I read stories and now I read everything) or (Firstly, I play simple games and now I play difficult games)…. 4/ I spend (three hours,…) on it. 5/ Because (I can learn about many things from books, I can relax,…). 6/ I would never stop reading them in my life. Activity 2: Writing Topic: Write a paragraph (100-120 words) about one of your hobbies. Task: MY HOBBY My hobby is reading books. I read story- books, magazines, newspapers and any kind of material that I find interesting. I started when I was eight. I learned to read -Teacher gives students some questions to answer. -Teacher gives students some minutes to answer the questions. After that, teacher calls some students to answer them and write the answers on the board. -Teacher asks students to look at all the ideas suggested on the blackboard. -Teacher asks students to write about their hobbies, using the ideas mentioned in activity 1. -Students look at the board and answer the questions. -Students write the answer on their notebooks -Students write their paragraphs on their notebooks Practice writing to write a basic sentence. Individuals T → the whole class from my father. At first, I read some simple books, then stories. Now I can read everything and I love reading novels. Especially, I am interested in reading funny stories. In fact, through reading, I can learn about many things: about people and how people live. Books also provide me with necessary information and facts. They have certainly helped me so much in my daily life. I would never stop reading them in my life. -Teacher goes around to offer help - Teacher calls on two or four students to go to the blackboard to write down their paragraph. - Teacher together with students finds out the mistakes and corrects them. -Teacher gives feedback on students’ work. -Teacher points out some common mistakes made by students when doing this writing task. - Some students correct the paragraphs on the board. T→ the whole class T↔ S T↔ S T↔ S 10 ’ 4. The Post-writing Stage: Correcting mistakes One of my hobby is watching TV. My hobby starts when I was a boy of 5. I would always ask my parents to turn on the TV set so that I could enjoy the cartoon films or advertisements. Now I find that watching TV enables me learn many things. I learn a lot about how people lived in old time. I learn about the wonders of the world, space travel, tiny viruses and other fascinating things.TV programs provides me with so many information and facts. I can stay at home and watch almost everything happen around me. I think I will continues to watch TV although TV programs are always useful to me. Watching TV is actually a good hobby. Correct mistakes: 1/ hobby → hobbies 2/ starts → started 3/ TV programs provides → TV programs provide 4/ continues → continue -Teacher gives handouts to students. Teacher asks students to work in groups of 4 to find out the mistakes in the essay given, adding that there is only one mistake in each paragraph. -Students work together to find out the mistakes To check students ‘comprehension and writing ability of students. T→ S S→ T 1’ Questions: Read the text in the activity above again and answer these questions 1. What is the writer hobby? 2. When did he start it? 3. How useful is the TV set to the writer? 4. Do you share the ideas about watching TV with the write? Why (not)? 5. Consolidation & homework Consolidation: Do exercise 1 and exercise 2 on page 90, 91 on exercises’ books. Homework : Topic: Write a short paragraph ( about 50-60 words ) about your collection -Teacher asks students to answer the following questions about the reading text given in the activity above, reminding them to write their work on their exercise notebooks T elicits what has been learnt -Students answers these questions about the reading after correct the mistakes. -Students write the answer on their exercise notebooks Whole class .
