Hệ thống kiểm soát ra vào (Access Control) là một thuật ngữ dùng để miêu tả bất kì biện pháp nào nhằm kiểm soát hoặc hạn chế hoạt động ra vào tại một địa điểm hay khu vực nhất định1. Hệ thống này đảm bảo an ninh và quản lý truy cập vào các khu vực, giúp phát hiện xâm nhập trái phép và thiết lập quyền hạn ra vào cho từng cá nhân hoặc nhóm người2. Một hệ thống kiểm soát ra vào thông thường bao gồm các thành phần cơ bản sau: Thông tin người sử dụng: Đây có thể là thẻ, mã PIN, dấu vân tay, khuôn mặt, và nhiều hình thức khác. Thông tin này cho phép kiểm tra tính hợp lệ của người sử dụng. Đầu đọc: Thiết bị này “đọc” thông tin người sử dụng và kiểm tra tính hợp lệ, quyết định cho phép hay không cho phép người đó ra hoặc vào khu vực kiểm soát. Thiết bị khóa: Ngăn chặn việc vào cửa tự do. Các loại khóa thông dụng bao gồm khóa điện tử, khóa từ, và khóa chốt.
